The Role of Augmented Feedback on Motor Skill Learning

Abstract: -The purpose of this literature study was to examine whether augmented feedback enhances motor skill learning in sports, and if so, how this can be explained. When athletes or students perform a skill, they receive two types of performance-related feedback. One type of feedback is called task-intrinsic feedback, which is the sensory information that is a natural part of performing a skill (e.g. vision, audition, and proprioception). The second type of performance-related feedback is called augmented feedback. … Show more

“…Knowledge of performance (KP) is the other type of augmented feedback for motor skill learning (Sunaryadi, 2016). We proposed sampling from the Zone of Intermediate Poses (ZIP) as a simple yet robust solution for movement self-correction, since a smooth pose sequence can be visualized by simply sampling adjacent points from the latent space.…”

“…In motor learning, feedback is movement-related information that is “fed back” to the learner before, during (concurrent), and after (terminal) an attempt to perform a task to enable modifications for the next action. In the field of sports, feedback is given by coaches to athletes to perform better, and in rehabilitation, therapists use it in patients who lost motor functions due to diseases [ 1 , 2 ]. Feedback information can be intrinsic (sensory), if it comes from movement production within the body, and/or extrinsic (augmented), if it is provided by sources outside the body and supplements intrinsic feedback [ 1 ].…”
