The Relationship between Long Noncoding RNA H19 Polymorphism and the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor Phenotypes on the Clinicopathological Characteristics of Lung Adenocarcinoma

Abstract: The aim of the current study is to investigate potential associations among Long Noncoding RNA (LncRNA) H19 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) phenotypes on the clinicopathological characteristics of lung adenocarcinoma (LADC). Five loci of LncRNA H19 SNPs (rs217727, rs2107425, rs2839698, rs3024270, and rs3741219) were genotyped by using TaqMan allelic discrimination in 223 LADC patients with wild-type EGFR phenotype and 323 LADC individuals with EGFR mutations. “…Our observation that EGFR mutations are more common in females than males and in never-smokers than in ever-smokers among patients with LUAD is consistent with previous reports [ 6 , 29 ]. We also found that EGFR wild-type disease was more likely to exhibit poor cell differentiation and lower rates of well or moderate cell differentiation compared to EGFR -mutant disease, which is consistent with previous reports [ 12 , 13 ].…”

“…Given the important role of EGFR mutation status in NSCLC development, we decided to explore interactions amongst crucial genes and EGFR status in NSCLC and LUAD. Interleukin-17A, the tumor suppressor protein WW domain-containing oxidoreductase, tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 3 (TIMP3), and long noncoding RNA H19 polymorphisms have all been associated with clinicopathologic characteristics in lung cancers [ 5 , 9 , 12 , 13 ]. These four studies have helped to identify subgroups of patients at high risk for LUAD progression.…”

“…For instance, the Aurora kinase A SNP rs6024836 AG + GG is related to an earlier tumor stage if combined with the presence of an EGFR mutation, L858R expression and exon 19 in-frame deletion [ 9 ]. Besides, the LncRNA H19 SNP rs217727 are related to advanced tumor status for lung adenocarcinoma with EGFR wild type [ 26 ]. On the other side, the GAS5 and its SNP is another genetic risk factor for cardiovascular disease and various malignancies including the lung adenocarcinoma [ 13 , 15 , 27 , 28 , 29 ].…”

“…SNPs of lncRNAs have been proposed to influence certain types of malignancies and angiogenic diseases ( Peng et al, 2017 ; Yuan et al, 2019 ; Weng et al, 2020 ; Ding et al, 2021 ; Wang et al, 2021 ). In previous studies, lncRNA CCAT1 SNP rs67085638 was correlated with the development of gastric cancer ( Olesiński et al, 2021 ), and lncRNA PCAT1 and its SNP rs2632159 were associated with a higher rate of colon cancer, which involves an angiogenesis process ( Yang et al, 2019 ).…”
