The Qnde Using Image Processing of the Magnetic Camera

Abstract: A scan type magnetic camera was proposed to satisfy the following demands: to obtain high speed quantitative magnetic flux leakage (MFL) distribution with homogeneous lift-off by using 2-dimensionally arrayed high sensitivity magnetic sensors; to concentrate the MFL; and to ignore the residual magnetization and magnetic hysteresis by using a magnetic fluid lens. The magnetic field distribution (MFD) image obtained by using the scan type magnetic camera is inclined to the scanning direction (x-direction) becaus… Show more

“…The LMF measurement system such as a magnetic camera is useful for detection and evaluation of cracks because the quantitative LMF distribution and its processed images such as ∂B/∂x and ∂B/∂y can be obtained. Especially, the differential LMF to the magnetization direction, ∂B/∂x, can eliminate the inclined magnetic field of the magnetizer, and estimate the crack position and size [3,4]. Fig.…”

“…A magnetic camera using Hall sensors has been developed to inspect and evaluate cracks [6][7][8][9]. The distribution of the magnetic field can be measured quantitatively; then, the crack can be evaluated with a scan type magnetic camera [10].…”

“…The specimen was magnetized by using a yoke type magnetizer, which had a 250mm of poles interval and 4,000 turns of coil at 0.34A input current. Also, the differential magnetic field to the magnetization direction, ∂H Z /∂x, was used in the experiment and analysis results because the ∂H Z /∂x data can eliminate the bad influence of the magnetic field from the poles of the magnetizer and the leaked magnetic field from the crack can be extracted efficiently by using ∂H Z /∂x [7][8][9].…”

“…Hence, nondestructive testing (hereafter NDT) and evaluation techniques for inspecting and evaluating cracks on the surface or near of surface of large structures, such as atomic and thermal power plants, have been developed. On the other hand, an NDT technique, namely, magnetic flux leakage testing (hereafter MFLT) can provide the magnetic field distribution of a specimen, and allow the quantitative evaluation of a crack with respect to crack position, direction, length and depth [1][2][3]. In addition, the distribution of the leaked magnetic field must be analyzed to evaluate a crack quantitatively with respect to its various shapes and sizes.…”
