The COVID-19 pandemic has forced higher-education institutions to switch to emergency online learning. This situation has also challenged the Muslim communities and institutions across the world to shift to the online mode of teaching Quran and Islamic studies. This research explored undergraduate students’ and instructors’ perceptions of the emergency online learning of Quran reading in Indonesia. Several aspects were analysed to compare the students’ perspective towards face-to-face class versus online learning, including class interaction, learning experience, motivation, satisfaction and comfort level. The study also compared students’ Quran reading performance in the online-learning setting with the records from a traditional face-to-face class during the previous year. The survey and performance data were obtained from 923 students. The findings indicated no significant difference in students’ performance between Quran reading classes in face-to-face and online classroom settings. Furthermore, although students and instructors felt that some aspects had changed, they generally tended to accept the Quran class in online mode. This is likely because, amidst the pandemic, students and instructors have no other options except to adapt to the rapid change and embrace the transition. Nevertheless, the study indicated signs of fatigue and reduction in the students’ acceptance of the Quran online learning over time.

This research is field research conducted on class V Ibtidaiyah Islamic boarding school students at the Darul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Seputih Banyak, Central Lampung, in connection with efforts to improve PAI learning on the main subject of Tajwid using the An-Nahdliyah method. Researchers collect the data needed as a source of information using technique observation, interview, And documentation from data obtained, Then collected and processed so that a conclusion can be drawn. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the method is fast responsive An-Nahdliyah, Which is applied in Madrasah Diniyah method An-Nahdliyah for the moment. This can overcome the difficulties of students and able to improve their ability to use the science of recitation, especially students of class V Madrasah Diniyah. Even though some students still experience difficulties applying the knowledge of recitation, the teachers continue to guide the children until they are fluent. The An-Nahdliyah method is an alternative method for dealing with children who have difficulty applying the science of tajwid by listening to and explaining to the child the mistakes they have experienced and correcting the reading.

To accomplish the mission of spreading the message of the Quran, prospective Islamic teachers need to be equipped with the ability to translate the Qur'an. However, in reality, they face difficulties in understanding the messages of the Qur'an because of their low Arabic language skills. This research aims to find practical steps to improve the competence of prospective Islamic teachers in translating the Qur'an. This research involved 35 prospective Islamic teachers, consisting of 20 men and 15 women from various districts at a tertiary institution in West Java Indonesia. Data were collected using surveys, observations, and semi-structured interviews. Data were thematically identified, coded, evaluated, categorized, and analyzed using the analytical tool of content analysis. This research produced six learning steps (summarized in an acronym TARJIM as developed from the Tamyiz method). The Tamyiz method was a hypothetical model that was used as the foundation of this action research. These steps were able to improve the ability of prospective Islamic teachers in translating the Qur’an from the beginner level to the skilled level as many as 27 (77.14%) participants, from the basic level to the skilled level as many as five (14.28%) participants, and from the basic level to advanced level as many as three (8.57%) participants. Moreover, the six steps provided skills for the prospective teachers in translating the Qur'an verses that have exegetical nuances. The findings show that the six steps were effective steps to increase the competence of translating the Qur'an for prospective teachers of Islamic Religious Education.
