“…These beneficial effects of TwHF therapy may be related to its ability to improve podocyte slit diaphragm or mesangial injury (Wan et al, 2011;Wan, Sun, & Zhen, 2005 (Fan, Parhira, Zhu, Jiang, & Bai, 2016;Wang et al, 2016a), and its effective dose and toxic dose are very close (Li, Jiang, & Zhang, 2014b). So proper dose contributes to the reduction of its toxicity.…”

“…Triptolide belongs to the Celastraceae family and is used extensively as an antirheumatoid, anti-eczema, immunosuppressive, nephrotic syndrome and malignant tumour agent in traditional Chinese medicine. The pharmacological effects of TPL are attributed to its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-tumor and immune-regulating properties [ 1 ]. However, the oral intake of TPL exists in a high-toxicity region, and the digestive system and urogenital system have adverse reaction rates of 35.8 and 22.8%, respectively [ 2 ], severely limiting its clinical application.…”

“…F. is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb, commonly known as "Thunder God Vine" or "Lei Gong Teng" (Figure 1 ). It is mainly used to treat autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus 1 , and its main active compounds are terpenoids including triptolide and celastrol. Triptolide (Figure 2 ) is currently considered to be one of the active compounds most likely to translate from traditional to modern medicine 2 .…”
