The patterns of agroforestry: the implementation and its impact on local community income and carbon stock in Sesaot Forest, Lombok, Indonesia

Abstract: This article aims to explore the implementation of agroforestry patterns in the Sesaot forest area and the impacts on the local community income and the carbon stocks. It is written based on descriptive research, data are collected through observation, interviews, and FGDs to 42 respondents, and measuring carbon stocks in 18 locations. The analysis in this study is divided into three: 1) clustering based on plant dominance to identify existing agroforestry patterns, 2) allometric equations to measure the amoun… Show more

“…Agroforestry planting patterns support future forestry development (Novasari et al 2023), are the best practices for sustainable management from both economic and environmental perspectives (Markum et al 2021), increase land productivity (Nandini et al 2023) and support people's livelihoods (Sulistiyowati et al 2023). Most of Indonesia's population lives in rural areas, which depends more on nature through agricultural businesses and is encouraged to utilize their land optimally, but quite a few farmers have limited land (Markum et al 2021). Limited land use encourages farmers to come up with innovations in spatial patterns of free choice to farmers (Kaur et al 2023).…”

“…Setiap jenis tanaman memiliki masa produksi yang berbeda, penggarap dapat memanen hasil secara harian, mingguan, bulanan dan musiman. Oleh karena itu bisa dikatakan masyarakat penggarap di Sesaot memiliki ketahanan pangan dan ekonomi yang cukup baik (Markum et al,2021). Dan secara keseluruhan dalam konteks kawasan, HHBK tanaman khususnya buah-buahan memiliki potensi nilai ekonomi yang tinggi.…”

“…There was also increase on shrub, settlement and crop area by 25%, 28% and 35%, respectively (Markum et al 2013). Previous research on this area have been focused on biodiversity (Shavira et al 2020), plant species diversity and carbon stocks in various types of forest cover (Markum et al 2013), and the social economy and the ecological function of the Sesaot forest (Markum et al 2021). No study has been conducted to look at the impacts of forest changes on surface water runoff in the Jangkok Watershed.…”
