The oxidative stress index increases among patients with hyperemesis gravidarum but not in normal pregnancies

Abstract: The present study supports the role of systemic oxidative stress, reflected by an imbalance between the TOS and TAS, in patients with HG. Our findings distinguish the mechanism underlying oxidative stress to result from reduction of antioxidants rather than an increase in oxidants.

This oxidative stress has been shown to be compensated by the parallel elevation of antioxidant defences and a defective response in this oxidant stimulus may be an essential component in the aetiology of preeclampsia [46], thus an intricate balance between oxidants and antioxidants is vital in early pregnancy [47].…”

“…Dynamic thiol disulphide homeostasis status has critical roles in antioxidant protection. OS is reported to be involved in the prognosis of various diseases and syndromes including cardiovascular disorders, cancer, allergy, some neurological disorders, diabetes, and diabetic retinopathy ( 8 9 10 ). Colchicine, the gold standard treatment for FMF blocks the release of cytokines and microtubule depolymerization.…”

“…OS is reported to be involved in many diseases and syndromes. [5][6][7] Nonetheless, until recently in trials aimed at evaluating OS, usually quite complicated methods like high-sensitivity fluorometric high-performance liquid chromatography, 8 capillary electrophoresis with laserinduced fluorescence detection 9 and enzymatic recycling, 10 and substances such as 5,5 ′ -dithiobis-(2-nitrobenzoic acid) (DTNB) 11 and dithiodipyridine (4-DPS) 12 were used.…”
