Profile and entrepreneurial intention of nursing students: a comparison between Brazil and Chile

Objective: to identify and compare factors associated with profile, intentions, motivations, and barriers to entrepreneurial behavior of nursing students from Brazil and Chile. Methods: this cross-sectional study was carried out between March and September 2018 including 889 nursing students. A form was used to assess the socio-demographic profile, professional claims, entrepreneurial intentions and motivations. Statistical analysis used Chi-Square and Fisher’s Exact tests, with a 5% significance level, and a simple logistic regression model. Results: there are significant differences between countries in the profile of students and in the motivations studied, but not in professional pretensions and entrepreneurial intentions. Lack of education on the subject reveals itself as an important barrier to entrepreneurship. Conclusion: given the lack of teaching entrepreneurship in undergraduate nursing courses and the characteristics inherent to students, education must be appropriate to different cultures to prepare future professionals for other areas of practice.

Oncology teaching in undergraduate nursing at public institutions courses in Brazil

Objectives: to identify the occurrence of oncology teaching in undergraduate nursing curricula. Methods: descriptive study, which data was obtained from curriculum and from Pedagogical Course Projects available on the websites from Brazilian public institutions, between June and July 2020. Results: 143 undergraduate nursing courses were identified. From them, 132 nursing courses (corresponding to 89 education institutions) had available the curriculum and/or Pedagogical Course Projects. Only 7 (5.3%) of them had oncology as a mandatory subject, 4 of them in the Midwest Region. Only 35 (26.5%) had elective subject in Oncology, most of them in the Northeast (45.7%). Conclusions: on third of nursing courses at public institutions has Oncology subject in the curriculum, which is few considering the high incidence and mortality from cancer in the country. The findings contribute for discussions, in curricular accommodation, on the relevance of oncology teaching in nursing curricula.

Objective: to emphasize university educational management actions and their articulation to develop clinical practice in nursing training, designed by its faculty. Methods: a single-case study with qualitative approach. The sources were composed of documentary research, focused interview with key informant and direct non-participant observation. Data were organized with the help of NVivo®10. Analysis followed the explanation construction technique from the perspective of complex thinking. Results: three categories emerged: Characterization of university educational management actions; Articulation of university educational management with clinical practice and its repercussion; and Spaces to develop university educational management and clinical practice. Final considerations: university educational management actions are associated with the work of professors, supporting teaching, research, and extension in order to improve clinical knowledge in the general nursing training.

Abstract: Research training can occur at all undergraduate academic moments, providing the student with the knowledge of scientific research as a formative content and as an investigative attitude, in order to enable the development of scientific competence in professional practice.
