This article aims to describe the guiding principles and the operationalization of the integrated curriculum of the undergraduate course in Nursing of a public university in southern Brazil. This is an experience report by 3 curriculum managing professors and 2 graduate students in Nursing, who experience the pedagogical proposal. The analysis comprised official documents and 2 books on this integrated Nursing curriculum, which has been developed for 13 years; it is presented in 4 topics: guiding principles; curricular structure; role of the professor and student; and collegiate management. We present reflections on the curriculum, expressing the framework supporting the proposal and the developmental strategies adopted. This experience points out the dialogical movement of participants in this education action, i.e. professors and students, from a critical and innovative perspective of nurse's training. We conclude that the pathway reported highlights key themes of the pedagogical proposal, such as inseparability of theory and practice; the diversification of teaching strategies; the successive close approaches between contents in interdisciplinary modules; learning evaluation from a two-dimensional perspective; early introduction of the student to different settings of professional practice; and the democratic and participatory management process in a collective construction. We hope to contribute to other institutions trying to develop an innovative methodology for nurse's training.
Abstract This study aims to analyze the health education concepts among the professionals on the Family Health team and to think critically about the relationship between health education practices and these workers' discourses. It is a qualitative study that uses discourse analysis as its theoretical framework and observation techniques and interviews to produce its data. The models of healing and conveying knowledge are strongly rooted in the concept and practice of health education, in which a vertical, taxing, superior relationship prevails and under which the professional is the keeper of knowledge. The workers consider themselves as educators, and there is a posture among them that envisions the process of educational work aimed at mutual learning and respect for the population's prior knowledge; however, this perception is only in their discourse and should be incorporated into their practice in order for there to be a change in health services. There is a need for a greater appreciation not only of the role played by the worker as a subject who is a driver of change in the educational practice and in the health care model in force, but also of the importance of acknowledging the users as subjects acting in their own health and capable of intervening in their own reality. AIM: to evaluate the clinical applicability of outcomes, according to the Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC) in the evolution of orthopedic patients with Impaired Physical Mobility METHOD: longitudinal study conducted in 2012 in a university hospital, with 21 patients undergoing Total Hip Arthroplasty, evaluated daily by pairs of trained data collectors. Data were collected using an instrument containing five Nursing Outcomes, 16 clinical indicators and a five point Likert scale, and statistically analyzed. RESULTS: The outcomes Body Positioning: self-initiated, Mobility, Knowledge: prescribed activity, and Fall Prevention Behavior presented significant increases in mean scores when comparing the first and final evaluations (p<0.001) and (p=0.035). CONCLUSION: the use of the NOC outcomes makes it possible to demonstrate the clinical progression of orthopedic patients with Impaired Physical Mobility, as well as its applicability in this context.
Objective:To understand the meaning of care management attributed by faculty members of a nursing course from the viewpoint of complex thinking Methods: Qualitative and comprehensive research with case studies, and individual interviews with 17 faculty members of a nursing course of a public university in southern Brazil. The data were subjected to comprehensive analysis based on the principle of complex thinking of Edgar Morin. Results: Two categories emerged: "classical fragmentation versus the contemporary whole" and "teaching care management and the nursing work process", whereby it was observed that despite the integrating proposal of the curriculum, care management is viewed as fragmented. Conclusions: Care management must be redefined if it is expected to serve as an aggregator in education. It is necessary to create strategies that enable moments of reflection on the subject, and for education to provoke changes in the work process of nurses. Keywords: Practice management. Nursing.
