The new V-Model of VDI 2206 and its validation

Abstract: Since 2016, a new version of the VDI (German Association of Engineers) Guideline 2206 has been developed by the Technical Committee VDI GMA 4.10 “Interdisciplinary Product Creation”. This article presents the revision results of the VDI Guideline 2206:2004 “Design methodology for mechatronic systems”. The core content of the guideline is an updated and enhanced V-Model for Mechatronic and Cyber-Physical Systems. The inherent concern logic of the V-Model represents the logical sequence of tasks. Its key advanta… Show more

“…An essential aspect of tire modeling within the development of the drive control of an electrically propelled bicycle trailer is made clear by integration into the V-model. At oresent, most product development processes generally follow the principles of modelbased systems engineering (compare, e.g., VDI 2206 [25,26]). This means that models continuously accompany the entire processes and are used for simulation for verification and validation purposes.…”

“…Figure 1 provides a birds-eye view of the proposed integration. Several methodologies exist in literature and practice that define the development lifecycle, such as V-method [16], Waterfall [33], and Agile [32], to name a few. Most of these methodologies include the three phases: design, implementation, and testing phases, in an iterative manner and are depicted in Figure 2.…”

“…This guideline basically offers the user support for all tasks in the development of cyber-physical mechatronic systems by presenting the main logical relationships. The core content of the guideline is an inherent flow logic for the development of mechatronic and cyber-physical systems; this is represented as an updated and extended Vmodel [3]. The central objective of the revision of the guideline is to adapt to greatly changed industrial environments; these changes result from the general trend towards cyber-physical systems, the increasing use of artificial intelligence and the analysis of large amounts of data, as well as further improved computer-aided synthesis and analysis methods.…”
