The management of sowing density on yield and lodging in the main oat biotype grown in Brazil

Abstract: The sowing density management in the main oat biotype cultivated in Brazil can bring yield gains with reduced lodging. The aim of this study was to sow the density adjustment of early cycle oat cultivars and reduced stature to increase biomass and grain yield with reduced lodging, considering high and low N-residual release succession systems in different years. The study was carried out in 2011, 2012 and 2013 in randomized blocks experimental design with four replications in factorial scheme 4 × 2, for sowing… Show more

“…According to Romitti et al (2016), the value of up to 10% lodging of oat plants does not bring significant losses in grain yield. Afterwards, adjustment of the regression equation of degree two was performed to estimate the harvest index (HI), equation ( 14), of oats as a function of the growth regulator doses in reduced condition (30 kg ha -1 ), high (90 kg ha -1 ) and very high (150 kg ha -1 ) nitrogen fertilization.…”

“…The expression of oat yield is associated with the genetic characteristics of each cultivar, the weather conditions during growing and the management technologies of the species (Brezolin et al, 2016;Romitti et al, 2016). Among management technologies, adequate nutrient supply is critical in ensuring grain quality yield (Mantai et al, 2015;Marolli et al, 2018).…”

“…White oat stands out as a cultivation alternative during winter, especially in the South Region of Brazil, mainly because, in addition to the grain production, it is an important member in the crop succession and/or rotation system (Santos et al, 2014). This cereal has multiple purposes, such as use in human and animal food, in addition to being employed as green manure and in soil cover cropping (Hawerroth et al, 2014;Riede et al, 2015;Romitti et al, 2016).…”
