Abstract: Using the Kepler Eclipsing Binary Catalog, we found seven EW-type eclipsing binaries within the tidal radius of the intermediate-aged open cluster NGC 6819 (about 40′). These seven EW eclipsing binaries are all confirmed to be contact binaries by light curve analysis with the 2015 version Wilson–Devinney program. Contact binaries at various stages of evolution unveil various operating mechanism that drives them. We report the photometric and period variations analysis of two contact binaries EV Cnc and AH Cnc in open cluster M 67. We observed the cluster from the JCBT 1.3 m telescope and utilized TESS and Kepler observations. The photometric solutions of EV Cnc and AH Cnc revealed a mass ratio of q$\sim$0.40 \& $\sim$0.15 with an inclination of i=42$^{\circ}$ \& 87$^{\circ}$. These solutions suggest that EV Cnc is probably a marginal contact binary and AH Cnc is a deep low mass ratio contact binary. The study of O-C variation analysis indicates that for both the systems, the period is increasing which suggests the mass transfer is occurring from secondary to primary. In the case of AH Cnc and based on simulations by randomly varying the time of minima to fit the LITE solution, we noted the third body orbital period to be around P$_{3}$ = 26.82 $\pm$ 2.54 years, which is different from earlier reported values and conclude that future observations are required to confirm this scenario. We compare these two systems with other similar contact binaries to get an estimate of the final configuration of the respective systems.

This paper investigates the extended main-sequence turnoffs (eMSTOs) and stellar populations of three clusters with different ages using Gaia DR2 data in detail. The colour-magnitude diagrams (CMDs) of three Galactic clusters show broad main sequences, eMSTOs, blue stragglers and red giant clumps. We explore the effects of age spread, binaries and rotating stars on the morphology of the entire CMD, paying particular attention to the effects of binary stars and rotating stars on eMSTOs. Some synthetic CMDs are built on the basis of the advanced stellar population synthesis (ASPS) model to study the observed CMDs and search for the best-fitting stellar population models. The age of the youngest stars, age spread, metallicity, colour excess, distance modulus, binary fraction and rotating star fraction of clusters are determined. The results show that both binaries and rotating stars are responsible for the eMSTO of intermediate-age cluster LP585, but binary stars affect more than rotating stars on the eMSTO morphologies of the youngest (M11) and oldest (NGC 6819) clusters in our samples. It suggests that M11 (∼ 0.3 Gyr) is possibly a composite stellar population of rotating and binary stars, while clusters LP585 (∼ 1.1 Gyr) and NGC 6819 (∼ 2.0 Gyr) are simple stellar populations of rotating and binary stars.

An open cluster is an ideal region to study the evolution of stars. In this work, we use Gaia Early Data Release 3 (Gaia EDR3) to derive the fundamental parameters of 30 faint open clusters listed in the catalogue given by Cantat-Gaudin et al. (2018, A&A, 618, A93), but the G magnitude of all of the member stars of that catalogue is brighter than ∼18 mag. This catalogue does not provide isochrone fitting parameters and spatial structure parameters. We acquired the member stars of 30 open clusters using the Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise algorithm in Gaia EDR3. The G magnitude of the member stars using our method can be found down to ∼21 mag. The G-band, GBP-band, and GRP-band data of the member stars construct a good color–magnitude diagram, which can further ensure the precision of isochrone fitting. We also calculated the spatial structure parameters, which are the core radius and the limiting radius, using Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithm.
