The influence of tin compounds on the dynamic properties of liposome membranes: A study using the ESR method

Abstract: Abstract:The influence of organic and inorganic compounds of tin on the dynamic properties of liposome membranes obtained in the process of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) sonication in distilled water was investigated. This was carried out by means of the spin ESR probe method. The probes were selected in such a way as to penetrate different areas of the membrane (a TEMPO probe, 5-DOXYL stearic acid, 16-DOXYL stearic acid). Four compounds of tin were chosen: three organic ones, (CH 3 ) 4 Sn, (C 2 H 5 ) … Show more

“…10). Despite that the literature data indicate that an LPO intensification results in a decrease of the S value, [58,59,61,62] from our point of view, these changes could not be explained solely by oxidative processes. Thus, the data disclosed above reveal that the cigarette smoke significantly modifies the different regions of liposomes and these modifications are not merely of oxidative origin.…”

“…Sn can poison organisms due to its ability to accumulate in living tissues and its commonness in nature. Symptoms of tin poisoning include neurological disorders (Man et al 2006). Therefore, the problem of Sn pollution from the solders is not negligible.…”

“…As reported elsewhere, organometallic compounds may more or less affect the membrane's physical parameters [12][13][14]. Likewise, our previous investigations were focused mainly on structural deviations induced within the lipid arrangement by different amounts of such additives [15][16][17][18][19] including the effect of the interaction time [20,21]. On the other hand, the present work contains some novel aspects regarding the behavior of intercalated phospholipid systems, in particular the impact of the dopant's molecular structure and its static electrical charge.…”
