The influence of temperature on optical properties of merocyanine dye thin films

Abstract: Abstract. Merocyanine dye thin films have been investigated using optical microscopy methods. The films were deposited using the method of thermal evaporation. The influence of substrate type and temperature on optical properties and spatial orientation of molecules in the above films has been studied. The influence of annealing on structural reorientation of molecules in thermally deposited dye films has been determined.

“…However, their investigations are still of interest as their application area permanently extends (see, for example reviews [1][2][3] and references therein). Besides traditional use of polymethine dyes as fluorescence probes and labels, initiators for polymerization reaction, active and passive components for tunable lasers [4,5], in the last decades they have shown a great potential for application in nonlinear optics as optical materials exploring strong excited state and two-photon absorption [6,7], as well as in new field connecting with LED technology [8][9][10][11][12]. Special role in the development of LED lighting technology belongs to organic LEDs (OLED) [12].…”

“…Special role in the development of LED lighting technology belongs to organic LEDs (OLED) [12]. Also, the OLED with emission spectrum which covers the visible region of the spectrum, is perspective to use for creating a new "white light" source -WOLED [8][9][10][11][12]. However, the typical polymethine dyes are ionic compounds, and hence cannot be used, for example, as a thinfilm obtained by evaporation in vacuum which is just used in the LED technology.…”
