“…Past and present writings in the institutional tradition emphasize several central ideas: rejection of a well-defined downward sloping labor demand curve; labor markets that are imperfectly competitive, institutionally segmented, socially embedded, and prone to excess supply; and the importance of technological and psycho-social factors in firm-level production systems and internal labor markets (ILMs) as determinants of cost and productivity (Taylor and Pierson 1957;Arrowsmith et al 2003;Brosnan 2003;Kaufman 1988Kaufman , 2010Osterman 2011). Regarding efficiency and welfare, the institutional model is similar to the monopsony model in that a MW may improve efficiency and welfare over a moderate range; the CoA sources of welfare gain, however, are not identical.…”

“…Higgins (2005) upozorňuje, že po zvýšení částky minimální mzdy (Florida, Illinois a New York v lednu 2005) si majitelé hotelů stále více stěžují na neúměrný růst mzdových nákladů a předpo-vídali i možnost krachů některých hotelů (zvláště v oblastech s nižšími životními náklady). Časovou řadu u 55 malých fi rem z oborů oděvního průmyslu a hotelnictví/ catering analyzovali Arrowsmith, Gilman, Edwards a Ram (2003). Docházejí k závěru, že právě velikost i obor činnosti mají na zranitelnost i větší odolnost fi rem vůči zvyšování minimální mzdy velký vliv.…”

“…Hence in the UK-based journals (HRMJ, BJIR, IRJ and ER) three groups of researchers are responsible for two papers each. These address the UK's first National Minimum Wage in small hospitality firms (Gilman et al, 2002;Arrowsmith et al, 2003, anti-union tactics in McDonald's in Germany (Royle, 2002a, and organisational culture and tipping behaviour in the HI (Ogbonna and Harris, 2002a, b). The APJHR has only a small focus on hospitality as a research site with Whitehouse (2003) providing an overview of gender and pay equity issues within the Australian scene.…”
