Contagious caprine pleuro-pneumonia (CCPP) is fatal disease of goats and causes huge economic losses due to high morbidity and mortality. CCPP is enlisted as notifiable animal disease by OIE. The causative agent of CCPP is Mycoplasma capricolum subsp. capripneumoniae (Mccp). The present study was aimed to investigate the seroprevalence of CCPP in northern Pakistan. The study areas were divided into three zones; northern zone, central zone and tribal zone. A total of 1300 serum samples were collected during November 2017 – April 2019 from goats of different age and sex and were analysed by monoclonal antibody based cELISA. The analyses revealed 227 (17.5%) samples positive for anti-Mccp antibodies. The zone wise distribution of CCPP in goats was significantly different (P˂0.05), indicated by positive sera for Mccp of 23% animals from northern zone followed by 15% and 13% animals from tribal and central zones, respectively. The analysis of data showed non-significant values in the seroprevalence among bucks and doe(s), indicated by anti-Mccp sera from 16.6% bucks and 18.3% doe (s). Moreover, among different age groups the prevalence of disease in adult goats (20%) was significantly (P˂0.05) higher than kids (10.8%). It is evident from the present study that CCPP caused by Mccp is prevalent in Pakistan and both sex of animals are equally susceptible to Mccp infection. Furthermore the disease is more prevalent in northern zone.

Contagious caprine pleuropneumonia is a transmissible disease in goats caused by Mycoplasma capricolum subsp. capripneumoniae (Mccp). The disease is responsible for remarkable morbidity and mortality in goats. In Pakistan, data regarding its prevalence and incidence is lacking. This research study was aimed at providing the current prevalence rate in Punjab, Pakistan. For this, 50 samples including pleural fluids, nasal swabs and trachea were collected from slaughterhouses, livestock markets and veterinary hospitals around Faisalabad and processed for the determination of Contagious caprine pleuropneumonia by culture and confirmation by polymerase chain reaction. Characteristics fried egg colonies and Giemsa staining were indicative of Mccp. The culture positive samples were then processed to detect 16S rRNA gene of Mccp. Based on cultural and molecular evidence: a) The prevalence of Contagious caprine pleuropneumonia was 40% in slaughterhouse specimens, b) The prevalence of contagious caprine pleuropneumonia was 46.66% in livestock markets and, c) The prevalence of contagious caprine pleuropneumonia was 15% in veterinary hospitals.

Bovine intramammary inflammation is one of the most important endemic and a mainly general infection of dairy animals which causes drastic losses in terms of reduced milk production and quality, costly medication and culling of important animals. Mastitis is responsible for poor milk quality in terms of direct hygienic quality and indirect quality characteristics of milk (Radostits et al., 2007;Bilal et al., 2004). Mastitic animals also have a deleterious Short CommunicationAbstract |Mycoplasma are known to cause several diseases in bovine animals including mastitis. The prevalence of mycoplasma mastitis is reported from many parts of the world in farm animals. The response of antimicrobials against this infection is very poor that usually lead to culling of infected animals. In Pakistan, unfortunately no data is available on the occurrence of mycoplasma mastitis in farm animals. Therefore, current field investigation was conducted first time in centre-west Balochistan to get the preliminary data on mycoplasma mastitis. Milk samples (n = 579) were collected from three districts viz., Jaffar abad, Sohbat pur and Naseer abad from mastitis suspected buffaloes. The samples were collected from those animals which had abnormal milk or physical signs (like swelling, abscess, wound etc.) on udder or teats or have suddenly dropped milk production. All samples were cultured on PPLO (pleuropneumonia like organism) media and were found negative for Mycoplasma spp. The prevalence of mycoplasma mastitis in this population of dairy buffaloes was recorded <0.23%. The study results suggested that the mycoplasma mastitis did not exist in buffaloes of study area, however, further studies using molecular tools are warranted to validate these findings.
