“…Generally, research has suggested that DISCOVER and SIC1 are effective in facilitating student career development (Fukuyama, Probert, Neimeyer, Nevill, & Metzler. 1988; Garis & Bowlsbey, 1984; Kapes, Borman, & Frazier, 1986;Rayman, Bryson, & Bowlsbey, 1978;Sampson & Stripling, 1979). While initial research regarding the effectiveness of computer-assisted guidance systems has been promising, the need continues for additional research concerning the effectiveness of very popular systems such as DISCOVER and SIGI in specific settings, in use with other career interventions, and with various student populations.…”

“…One study in which DISCOVER was used as an experimental variable showed no significant differences between experimental and control groups of high school students. However, the 96 students who worked with DISCOVER expressed positive reactions to the program (Rayman, Bryson, & Bowlsbey, 1978). In another study Savin (1979) found that 73% of 245 high school students liked using DISCOVER; furthermore, 56% recommended it to their friends.…”

“…With respect to earlier studies documenting the effects of CACG systems, DISCOVER was effective in exerting a positive influence on the career planning process by increasing the use of career resource materials (Garis & Swails, 1983); in improving career development attitudes (Kapes, Borman, & Kimberly, 1985); in increasing career planning knowledge (Penn, 1981); and in increasing confidence in educational and career plans (Rayman, Bryson, & Harris-Bowlsbey, 1978). Other studies indicated that DISCOVER had no significant positive effect on increasing occupational knowledge or competency in career decision making (Garis & Swails, 1983), or on career maturity knowledge (Kapes, Borman, & Kimberly, 1985).…”
