The Fate and Development of the Immature and of the Premature Child

Abstract: About 55 per cent of immature infants live until the end of the first year; 52 per cent reach the school age, and 51 per cent reach the age of puberty; in other words, the mortality after the school age is not any higher than for mature children. Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD.
