The evolution of psychological distress trajectories in women diagnosed with advanced breast cancer: a longitudinal study

“…The implication is that Hong Kong's healthcare workers provide inadequate psychosocial support for emotionally vulnerable patients, consistent with previous studies indicating that oncologists often provided little psychosocial support during the consultation . Hence, colorectal surgeons need to recognize that addressing patients' concerns may improve coping with physical symptoms , themselves important predictors of psychological adjustment . Here, pre‐surgical physical symptom distress identified persisting high PDL needs trajectories, further confirming that unresolved symptoms create difficulties for patients , the importance of effective integrated symptom assessment and management in cancer care , and for adequate home stoma care support.…”

“…Given the fact that early diagnosis and advanced multimodal treatments lead to a higher number of cancer survivors and many patients receive long-term treatments, the 12-month prevalence rates are of particular importance for health care planning. Mental disorders could be a long-lasting problem for cancer survivors [21] leading to an increased risk for further somatic and psychological symptom burden.…”
