“…Psychological evaluation during and after cancer treatment, as recommended by ASCO (Andersen et al, ), would allow for different profiles of patients with psychological distress to be established, based on age, gender and other characteristics. During adjuvant treatment, younger individuals (aged 40–55 years) reported more anxiety and depression than patients over 70 years of age (Bergerot, Mitchell, Ashing, & Kim, ; Stanton et al, ); likewise, women reveal these symptoms more than men (Bergerot et al, ). In an attempt to search for depression profiles, we found that the study conducted by Stanton et al identified three subgroups in BC patients: (a) those who did not present depression at any time (43%); (b) those who displayed depressive symptoms before, during and after treatment (38%); and (c) patients who exhibited depressive symptoms at baseline, but who subsequently recovered (20%) (Stanton et al, ).…”
