The enhancement of student’s mathematical understanding ability through the Aptitude Treatment Interaction (ATI) learning model

Abstract: Some teachers pay little attention to the difference in students’ abilities in conducting the learning. Fast-learners feel bored when learning because there is a tendency to repeat the lesson, while slow learners will feel left out because learning tends to be dominated by intelligent students. Therefore, the teachers must accommodate students with different abilities, using a learning model that treats students according to their abilities. The Aptitude Treatment Interaction (ATI) learning model is a solution… Show more

“…In this case the ATI learning model can be a solution because it can assist educators in helping students master the material being taught according to the student's level of ability. Furthermore Septiana, et al (2021) corroborated this statement with research he conducted related to the results showing that students' mathematical understanding abilities in the learning process applied to the ATI learning model were better than the learning process using conventional learning.…”

“…The results of research that has been carried out at SMPIT Al-Azhar Banda Aceh in class VII, shows that grouping students according to their cognitive ability has numerous advantages, including: giving comfort to educators while showing in class, making it simpler for an educator to control the most common way of giving guidelines and can reinforce understudy accomplishment. The aptitude treatment interaction model's shortcomings include the need for effective time management and the teacher's requirement to divide students into three groups based on their abilities; if the teacher groups students incorrectly, students will receive incorrect treatment (Septiana et al, 2021). The research results of class VII students of MTS ANNUR Karang Rejo, show that the use of the aptitude treatment interaction learning method can improve the ability to understand students' mathematical concepts compared to students who receive instruction using conventional learning models (Dewi, 2020).…”

“…Thus, these activities provide opportunities for students to engage in discussions, think critically, be brave and be willing to take responsibility for their own learning according to their abilities (Chen, 2019;Xu & Zhang, 2021). Learning mathematics using the ATI learning model emphasizes more on grouping students according to student abilities, encouraging student activity, motivating students to express ideas, encouraging students to think, observe, understand, try, guess, find, and review again (Hardy et al, 2019;Septiana et al, 2021).…”
