The effects of rutin and quercetin on ECG parameters in 5-FU-induced cardiotoxicity rat model

Abstract: 5‐fluorouracil (5-FU), a pyrimidine analogue anticarcinogenic agent, is widely used in the solid tumors treatment. Use of the 5-FU causes cardiotoxicity. Our aim in this study investigations effects of Quercetin and Rutin on ECG parameters in the 5-FU-induced cardiotoxicity in rats. In the present study used male rats. Rats were divided randomly to eight group. The control group was given intragastric corn oil for 14 days. The 5-FU group rats were given ig corn oil for 14 days and injected intraperitoneal the … Show more

“…At both doses, rutin and quercetin (Q) reduced these changes, and our findings were in parallel with this study in which treatment with flavonoids such as Q and rutin could prevent these changes. [ 32 ] Also, 5‐FU (50 mg/kg, at weekly ips for six consecutive weeks) can reduce HR, prolong the RR interval duration, and increase ST. [ 33 ] In contrast, SIL (60 mg/kg, orally) has been found to reduce the harmful effects of doxorubicin (DOX) on myocardial function, including morphological and functional alterations in the heart, improve heart failure, and reduce ECG disorders, [ 34 ] which is consistent with our data.…”

“…Various studies have shown that the use of some natural substances with anti-inflammatory properties can prevent inflammation-induced tissue damage [58][59][60][61][62][63][64][65]. Flavonoids are one of these natural ingredients.…”

“… 15 In the study of Gelen et al, in addition to severe myocardial damage, ECG changes were observed in rats given 5-FU. 16 Multitargeted kinase inhibitors targeting BCR-ABLs such as imatinib, bosutinib, and dasatinib can cause pleural and pericardial effusion and heart failure. 17 Taxifolin is protective against these effects.…”
