The Effects of External Relations Network on Low-Carbon Technology Innovation: Based on the Study of Knowledge Absorptive Capacity

Abstract: Low-carbon technology innovations (LTI) have attracted wide attention due to their effects on reducing carbon emissions, and improving LTI behavior is a kind of beneficial measures on carbon emissions control in enterprise. The current research explores the determinants that affect LTI behavioral intention, and an integrative model of external relations network (ERN) on LTI, incorporated with knowledge absorptive capacity (KAC), is used. An effective sample of 380 staffs who worked in industrial enterprise of … Show more

“…Firms with absorptive capacity are better at resource utilization, building core technologies, and are more competent in all respects [13]. From these Sustainability 2018, 10, 573 3 of 15 viewpoints of scholars, absorptive capacity is kind of continuous absorption, digestion and utilization capacity, also an exploratory learning ability to gain knowledge sources from other enterprises and internal and external environment [14]. According to the resource-based view (RBV), selecting and accumulating resources are functions of both within-firm decision making and external strategic factors [15].…”

“…Scholars have actively discussed about the low-carbon technology innovation systems, which can be summarized as the following two points: one is the research focusing on the specific levels and latitudes of low-carbon technology innovation systems (including the connotation, constituent elements, functions, structure and operation mechanism, etc.) [6][7][8][9][10]; the other is the low-carbon technology innovation systems that emphasize on the research of industrial dimensions (which can be subdivided into low-carbon industrial technology innovation systems and cross-industry low-carbon technology innovation systems) [11][12][13][14], the geographical dimensions of low-carbon technology innovation systems (which can be subdivided into the regional low-carbon technology innovation systems, the national low-carbon technology innovation systems and the transnational economic regional low-carbon technology innovation systems) [15][16][17][18].…”

“…New energy sources have the characteristics of no-emitting pollutants and relatively safe applications, and they have more potential for development. Faced with the requirements of sustainable development and low-carbon economic development, new energy enterprises have been given the important mission, and a large number of theoretical and empirical studies have proved that low-carbon technological innovation of new energy enterprises is the core of their development [11,14,17]. The low-carbon technology innovation of new energy enterprise refers to a systematic process.…”

“…Innovation and technological change have become increasingly important for enterprise competitiveness (Jiang et al, 2018). Due to the increasing complexity of innovation and globalization, the innovation landscape of firms has gone through changes in its various spatial dimensions (Paci and Usai, 1999).…”
