The effect of physical activity on serum IL-6 and vaspin levels in late elementary school children

Abstract: [Purpose]This study investigates the effects of physical activity on serum IL-6 and vaspin in late elementary school children.[Methods]Those who (n = 220) completed the 7-day physical activity monitoring underwent a second round of measurements including body fat, serum glucose and insulin, and serum IL-6 and vaspin. One way ANOVAs followed by LSD post hoc tests were used to test for significant differences in dependent variables across incremental physical activity levels at p=0.05. Multivariate stepwise line… Show more

“…Vaspin also decreased the expression of leptin, TNF-α, and resistin, so ameliorate in ammatory process that may effectively improve IR (10). In the present study, Keeping with previous research, vaspin associated significantly with hs-CRP and IL-6 in study participants (12, 28, 29, 30, 31). Inflammatory process amelioration may aid in impaired insulin sensitivity (25, 29).…”

“…Possibly accounting for elevated IL-6 and TNFα, acute bouts of exercise (90 min) in elementary school children increased plasma IL-6 and TNFα by 125 ± 35% and 18 ± 7% respectively [ 31 ]. However, long-term increases in physical activity may relate to lower inflammatory cytokine concentrations in children [ 32 ], possibly due to lower adiposity [ 33 ]. In our cross-sectional study, though BMI z -score did not differ among vitamin D status categories, without measures of physical activity or adiposity, we are unable to control for these potential confounders.…”
