The Effect of Mathematical Disposition and Learning Motivation on Problem Solving: An Analysis

Abstract: This research was motivated by the low problem-solving abilities, mathematical disposition, and learning motivation of junior students. This study aims to find and analyze the influence of mathematical dispositions empirically and learning motivation on problem-solving abilities. Samples were obtained in class VII-2 at SMPN 2 Cimahi as many as 34 students.  The study uses quantitative correlational methods. The analysis was done by a regression method. The data collection was given two pieces of study instrume… Show more

“…This is because students do not have good mathematical problem-solving skills. Mathematical problem-solving abilities, namely the ability of students to understand problems, develop solving strategies, carry out strategies in solving problems, and finally students can re-examine the results of their work (Harisman et al, 2020;Hutajulu et al, 2019;Kusmaryono et al, 2018;Maharani et al, 2019;Maulidia et al, 2019).…”

“…This is also because problem-solving abilities are classified as high-order thinking skills. However, the importance of MPSA is not in line with the facts in the field which still show that the mathematical problem solving abilities of students are still low (Harisman et al, 2020;Hutajulu, Wijaya, & Hidayat, 2019;Kusmaryono, Suyitno, Dwijanto, & Dwidayati, 2018;Latifah & Widjajanti, 2017;Maharani, Kholid, Pradana, & Nusantara, 2019;Maulidia, Johar, & Andariah, 2019;Putra, Thahiram, Ganiati, & Nuryana, 2018).…”

“…Indonesia menempati peringkat 64 dari 65 negara yang berpartisipasi dan memperoleh skor 375 dari rata-rata skor yang ditetapkan Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) yaitu 494 untuk kemampuan literasi matematika (Andini et al 2018). hasil penelitian internasional pada tahun 2015 Mathematic and Science Study (TIMSS) menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan matematika siswa Indonesia berada di peringkat 44th dari 49 negara dengan score 397 (Hutajulu, Wijaya, and Hidayat 2019).…”

“…Of course the teacher must bring a supportive learning atmosphere, not make students tense, so that students get a comfortable atmosphere in the classroom. This learning atmosphere can be achieved by using learning models or the use of technology in the classroom (Hermita et al, 2020;Hutajulu, Wijaya, & Hidayat, 2019; T.T. Wijaya, Jianlan, & Aditya, 2020;Tommy Tanu Wijaya, Ying, Chotimah, & Bernard, 2020;L.…”
