The Effect of CS Administration or an R-Optimized Alternative on Potential Projective Material in Rorschach Responses From Six Studies and a Meta-Analysis of Their Findings

Abstract: The Rorschach Performance Assessment System (R-PAS; Meyer, Viglione, Mihura, Erard, & Erdberg, 2011 ) introduced R-optimized administration to reduce variability in the number of Responses (R). We provide new data from six studies of participants randomly assigned to receive a version of this method or Comprehensive System (CS; Exner, 2003 ) administration. We examine how administration methods affect 3 types of codes most likely to contain potential projective material and the frequency of these codes for the… Show more

“…To assess between system differences in R for the patients, we generated descriptive analyses and compared M s using a t test with Cohen’s d as the effect size index. We also compared variability using SD proportions as the effect size index (dividing the R-PAS SD by the CS SD ) and its natural log to test significance (Hosseininasab et al, 2019; Meyer et al, 2020). We use d magnitudes ≥0.20 as the conventional benchmark for small mean differences.…”

“…Research comparing CS and R-PAS administration among nonpatients (Pianowski et al, 2021), experimental studies of participants receiving CS administration versus early versions of R-PAS administration (Hosseininasab et al, 2019;Meyer et al, 2020), and statistical modeling of R to convert its distribution in CS administration to fit its distribution in R-PAS administration (Meyer et al, 2011;Pianowski et al, 2016aPianowski et al, , 2016b all provide similar conclusions. R-PAS administration achieves its aim of slightly increasing the average number of responses in a protocol while dramatically decreasing its variability across respondents.…”

“…Hraniční hodnoty pro vyhodnocení podle trsů předpokládají standardní délku protokolu (17-27 odpovědí, Exner, 2003). Při práci s protokolem delším o 10 odpovědí je vhodné platnost hraničních hodnot v dílčích případech zvážit (Meyer et al, 2018).…”
