The correlation between the psoriasis area severity index and ischemia-modified albumin, mean platelet volume levels in patients with psoriasis

Abstract: IntroductionIschemia-modified albumin (IMA), a novel ischemia marker, and mean platelet volume (MPV), a determinant of platelet activation, have been reported as elevated markers in cardiovascular risk factors such as atherosclerosis, metabolic syndrome, diabetes mellitus (DM), hypertension, and dyslipidemia. As psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease having comorbidities, IMA and MPV can help determine the risk factors for psoriasis.AimTo investigate the correlation between the psoriasis area severity ind… Show more

“…IMA levels have been reported to increase in diseases capable of causing acute or chronic hypoxia and oxidative stress 17 . IMA levels also increase in diseases that oxidative stress is implicated in etiopathogenesis, such as psoriasis, diabetes mellitus, multiple sclerosis, some cancers, polycystic ovary syndrome and b-thalassemia major 10,[18][19][20][21][22] . Our review of the literature revealed a limited number of studies of IMA and dermatological diseases.…”

“…Similarly, Ozyazgan et al 23 observed higher levels of IMA in the active phase of Behcet's disease. Işik et al 18 investigated the correlation between the psoriasis area severity index (PASI) and IMA levels in patients with psoriasis and reported significantly higher IMA levels in the psoriasis group than in the control group. IMA levels do not correlate with PASI scores, but have been found to correlate with duration of illness.…”

“…İskemik durumda albümin, aspartik asitin silinmesine bağlı olarak N-terminal uçlarında geçiş metallerini bağlama kapasitesini ve yeteneklerini kaybeder (18) . Oksidatif strese bağlı hastalıklarda artmış IMA seviyesi, psöriasis hastalarında artmış olarak bulunmuştur (36,37) . Çalış-mamızda artmış miktarda IMA psöriasis hastalarında saptandı.…”

“…Recent studies reported that IMA is also increased in cardio-metabolic diseases associated with OS such as hypercholesterolaemia, renal disease, polycystic ovary syndrome, obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus [17][18][19]. It was reported that IMA levels are higher in patients with psoriasis than in healthy controls in patients with psoriasis in studies of Ozdemir M et al [20], Isik S et al [21] and Chandrashekar L et al [22] Three studies reported that increased IMA levels of psoriasis patients is associated with increased systemic inflammation and OS in psoriasis [20][21][22].…”
