The comparison of automated urine analyzers with manual microscopic examination for urinalysis automated urine analyzers and manual urinalysis

Abstract: ObjectivesUrinalysis is one of the most commonly performed tests in the clinical laboratory. However, manual microscopic sediment examination is labor-intensive, time-consuming, and lacks standardization in high-volume laboratories. In this study, the concordance of analyses between manual microscopic examination and two different automatic urine sediment analyzers has been evaluated.Design and methods209 urine samples were analyzed by the Iris iQ200 ELITE (İris Diagnostics, USA), Dirui FUS-200 (DIRUI Industri… Show more

“…Whereas the reference instrument UF‐5000 counts RBC and WBC via flow cytometry, the UC‐3500 measures the enzymatic activity of hemoglobin peroxidase and leukocyte esterase, respectively. It has been reported that due to low sensitivity and NPV, screening for urinary infections by test strips alone might not be sufficient . Despite these findings, in our study, the NPV was just below 95% for WBCs, and values for trueness of ordinal scale measurements fulfilled optimum criteria for the detection and confirmation limit.…”

“…In accordance with the literature, we found that our results were more accurate in urine sediments having higher cell counts [14][15][16] . It is accepted that automated analyzers reduce the time spent on manual examination, as reported in some studies 17,18 .…”
