Mainly recognized for their cognitive performance, the visual communication system and, particularly, the potential function of facial displays in parrots remain thus far unexplored. Here, we provide the first descriptive study of facial display use in captive blue-and-yellow macaws. We observed the feather position (sleeked or ruffled) on the crown, nape and cheek at the group level during the macaws’ daily routine and individually while interacting with a familiar animal caretaker. In the latter context, blushing was also assessed on the bare skin of the cheek. Group level observations showed that crown, nape and cheek feathers ruffling was more frequent in activities requiring no locomotion than in activities requiring locomotion. With the animal caretaker, crown ruffling was significantly more frequent when the caretaker was actively engaging with the parrot than during a control phase with no mutual interaction. In addition, a significantly higher proportion of naïve observers judged blushing as being present on photographs taken during the mutual interaction phase than during the control phase. We thus showed significant variations in facial displays and bare skin colour based on the birds’ social context and activity. Our results broaden the scope for further studies to determine whether parrots’ faces provide visual social signals.

This study analised the theme of the myth contained in three lyrics of Lorelei from three different times. Lorelei is a mythical woman whose name is taken from a cliff on the Rhine. This research will refer to the relationship between women (Lorelei) and male figures and the relation will be analyzed through the perspective of existentialist feminism using two main concepts, Men as Subjects and Women as Other Figures. The author chose the Lorelei-lyrics from three different time, Heinrich Heine's Lorelei (1823), Dschinghis Khan's Loreley (1981), and Faun's Lore Lay (2013) to show the Lorelei myth displayed in different era. Through the study of existentialism feminism, it can be seen that Lorelei is still described as the object which is marginalized by the strong myth of the fame fatale. Although the depictions of Lorelei's subjectivity can be found in some parts of the lyrics by Dchingis Khan (1981) and Faun (2013), but those depictions are still very vague. Javanese ethnic teenagers are highly highlighted in their respect for older people. This study aims to describe the attitude of respect for older people in Javanese ethnic teenagers. The research informants is 6 Javanese teenagers aged around 13-23 years. This research uses qualitative descriptive phenomenology approach, using semi-structured interview. This result of this research is described an image of respect for the elderly seen from the attitude component. Javanese culture is the identity of the Javanese who was taught since childhood and has become customary. Respect is polite and gentle for the elderly. Javanese language was used the informants to communicate with older people. The informant feels weird when he does not respect the elderly and feels guilty when he notices that an older person feels disrespectful. The informant respects, greets, and smiles when meeting older people, accepts guests with subtle language, ducking or bowing as they pass in front of older people. This should be applied in the life of Javanese society so that its main identity does not fade.
