Over the years, patients have been called upon to play a more active role in their health processes. An increase in radiological examinations has also been observed, which leads to increased exposure of the most sensitive population (women of childbearing age) to X-rays and subsequent stochastic effects. Therefore, it is important to understand what knowledge this group has about radiology, if they intend to increase/know more about exposure to radiation, as well as to understand their participation in their radiological process. For a month, and with the help of three Portuguese associations, it was possible to disseminate the data collection instrument (questionnaire) adapted to the Portuguese reality on all its digital platforms. In this way, it was possible to obtain 502 responses from women between the ages of 18 and 57. Through the data obtained, it was noticed that participation and knowledge are reduced, but there is a willingness on the part of the sample to obtain more information and participate more in the entire radiological process. For greater participation of users in their radiological process (before the radiological examination, during the procedure, and after the procedure), it is important to provide tools that help to increase knowledge in this area. Zusammenfassung Hintergrund Die Indikation zum Röntgen sollte bei pädiatrischen und jugendlichen Traumapatienten streng dem ALARA-Prinzip (as low as reasonable achievable) folgen. Die Wirkung der Strahlung auf das wachsende sensible Gewebe dieser Patienten darf nicht außer acht gelassen werden. Fragestellung Die Sektion Kindertraumatologie der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Unfallchirurgie (SKT) wollte klären wie in der Traumaversorgung dem Prinzip gefolgt wird. Methoden Eine Online-Umfrage war 10 Wochen lang offen. Zielgruppen waren Unfall-, Kinder- und Allgemeinchirurgen sowie Orthopäden. Ergebnisse Von 15.11.2019 bis 29.02.2020 beteiligten sich 788 Ärzte: Niederlassung 20,56 %, MVZ 4,31 %, Krankenhaus 75,13 %; Assistenzarzt 16,62 %, Oberarzt 38,07 %, Chefarzt 22,59 %. Nach Facharztqualifikation ergab sich die Verteilung: 38,34 % Chirurgie, 33,16 % Unfallchirurgie, 36,66 % spezielle Unfallchirurgie, 70,34 % Orthopädie und Unfallchirurgie, 18,78 % Kinderchirurgie. Häufigkeit des Kontakts mit Frakturen in der o. g. Altersgruppe wurde angegeben mit 37 % < 10/Monat, 27 % < 20/M, 36 %> 20/M. Etwa 52 % fordern immer Röntgenaufnahmen in 2 Ebenen nach akutem Trauma. Das Röntgen der Gegenseite bei unklaren Befunden lehnen 70 % ab. 23 % wenden die Sonographie regelmäßig in der Frakturdiagnostik an. Bei polytraumatisierten Kindern und Jugendlichen wird das Ganzkörper-CT bei 18 % nie, bei 50 % selten und bei 14 % standardmäßig eingesetzt. Diskussion Die Analyse zeigt, dass es kein einheitliches radiologisches Management von Kindern und Jugendlichen mit Frakturen unter den Befragten gibt. Schlussfolgerung Vergleicht man die Ergebnisse der Umfrage mit den kürzlich in dieser Zeitschrift veröffentlichten Konsensergebnissen des SKT, so bedarf es noch Überzeugungsarbeit, um den Einsatz von Röntgenstrahlen bei der Primärdiagnostik zu ändern.

Concerns regarding patients' radiation exposure have arisen in response to the rising use of medical imaging techniques, some of which include ionizing radiation. The purpose of this research was to analyze and assess patients' knowledge and attitudes about dosage and related dangers produced by Ionizing Radiation (IR) treatments. This was cross-sectional research including 377 consecutive patients done over a 4-month period at the radiology unit of Hospital Santa Rita de Cassia Vitoria in Najran for IR treatments utilizing self-administered surveys produced and provided to participants along with consents and instructions. Approximately three-quarters (60%) of the participants reported being unconcerned about undergoing radiological testing. If they can endure the sickness, the same number of patients would not undergo radiological exams. Approximately half of the respondents (50%) claimed that they would be dissatisfied if no more radioactive tests were necessary, and 52% did not believe that radiological treatments may pose risks and negative impacts on the body. Furthermore, more than half of the patients (53%) reported not understanding that radiological exams might increase cancer risk; 48% would not repeat radiological tests in six months; and around 69% were unaware of the necessity of Radiology for diagnostics. The study population has relatively poor knowledge and awareness of the dangers associated with Ionizing Radiation. As a result, there is a need to educate the general population, not only medical staff, concerning radiation exposure and its related hazards.
