We have isolated a monoclonal antibody (150) that recognizes a phosphorylation epitope on the microtubule-associated protein (MAP) 1B. Immunoblot analysis of the developing rat central nervous system shows that monoclonal antibody 150 is directed against a protein of approximately 325 kDa (MAP 1B) that copolymerizes with microtubules through successive cycles of temperature-dependent assembly and disassembly. Furthermore, immunoprecipitated MAP 1B contains the epitope recognized by monoclonal antibody 150. Removal of phosphate from blotted proteins using alkaline phosphatase abolishes the binding of monoclonal antibody 150 to MAP 1B, indicating that the epitope is phosphorylated. In the developing rat nervous system, immunohistochemistry with monoclonal antibody 150 shows that the phosphorylation epitope on MAP 1B is transiently expressed in growing axons but not in dendrites. For instance, in the neonatal rat cerebellum, the parallel fibres of granule cells are stained only during elongation and not after synaptogenesis. The monoclonal antibody 150 epitope is also transiently expressed in radial glial fibres and in certain cell nuclei. All immunostaining of sections with monoclonal antibody 150 was completely abolished by alkaline phosphatase treatment. These observations and previous ones made by us in cell culture (Mansfield et al., J. Neurocytol., 20, 654-666, 1991) suggest that the phosphorylation epitope on MAP 1B recognized by monoclonal antibody 150, which has not been previously detected in vivo, may be important in axonogenesis.
The floral sources used by bees can be identified by analyzing pollen grains obtained from their bodies, feces, brood cells, or storage pots in the nests. In addition to data on resource availability, this information enables the investigation on the selection of food resource by bees. We assessed the foraging patterns of Scaptotrigona aff. depilis in an urbanized area with seasonal availability of food resources. The species visited a percentage of 36.60% of the available flora, suggesting that these bees are selective at spatiotemporal scale. When many types of resources were available, the workers concentrated their collection activities on a limited group of sources. In contrast, more plant species were exploited during periods of lower number of flowering plants. A monthly analysis of the foraging patterns of the studied colonies revealed that Syzygium cumini (88.86%), Mimosa sp.1 (80.23%), Schinus terebinthifolius (63.36%), and Eucalyptus citriodora (61.75%) were the most frequently used species and are therefore important for maintaining S. aff. depilis at the study area. These plants are close to the colonies and exhibit mass flowering. This study is one of few works to quantify natural resource availability and to analyze the effects of flowering seasonality on the selection of food sources by bees.

Abstract. Demographical and social changes have an enormous effect on health care, emergency and welfare services. Indeed, as the average age continues to rise, it is set the mood to an exponential growth in assistance and care, resulting in higher service costs, a decrease in quality of service, or even both. On the other hand, as part of the evolution of traditional Virtual Reality Environments (or Intelligent Mixed Reality), a striving expression for Ambient Intelligence (AmI) it is possible to outline the role of AmI in healthcare, by focusing on its technological, logical (relational) and common sense nature. Our goal is to have in place an electronically-based monitoring system. This would reduce response time to adverse events, improve analytics and reporting, and will provide caregivers with the information they need to positively impact the care of individual patients.
The aim of this report is to depict the proceedings for obtaining new RB varieties of sugarcane in Alagoas, Brazil. This process starts at Sugarcane Flowering and Crossing Station, At Serra do Ouro. Serra do Ouro is located at 9º13'S 35º 50'W, 450m above sea level and 35km from the sea. The Winter (the wet season) extends from March to August. The Summer (the dry season) extends from September to February, and under these conditions the flowering process takes place and the annual cross station activity commences. Field trials and industrial analyses are carried out at sub-stations and sugar mills, respectively. The process for releasing new varieties is accomplished over eleven years. Since 1970 Serra do Ouro has produced and released 51 RB commercial varieties which cover over 50% of the sugarcane-growing area in Brazil.
.With the growing numbers of the elderly population, the society is face to face with a set of new problems, namely the lack of resources to assist their living in a noble mode. Nevertheless, with the use of new computational technologies and novel methodologies for problem solving, some solutions to these problems are emerging (e.g., remote sensing/assistance/supervision). Therefore, it is our goal to show that under such scenarios, it is possible to bring into play different interconnected virtual organizations, through which will be provided to the population, in general, and the elderly, in particular, a number of services (e.g., healthcare, entertainment, learning), without derealization or messing up with their routine.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
