The Antioxidant Activity of Sterculia stipulata Korth Woods and Leaves by FRAP Method

Abstract: Background: Phenol compounds and flavonoids are known have antioxidant activity. Sterculia genus has secondary metabolite rich of phenols and flavonoids. Objective: The aim of this study of the activity antioxidants of Sterculia stipulata Korth. Woods and leaves by FRAP method. Materials and methods: Extraction done using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and methanol. The methanol extract was determined antioxidant activity using the FRAP method and also determined the total phenols content, total flavonoids, and phyt… Show more

“…The ferric ion reduction was also a method to judge antioxidation. In an acidic environment, the ability of reducing Fe 3+ ‐TPTZ to produce Fe 2+ ‐TPTZ with blue could reflect the total antioxidant capacity of the sample (Prastiwi et al ., 2020). The standard curve was drawn with FeSO 4 , and the concentration of Fe 2+ (μmol mL −1 ) obtained from the standard curve was defined as the FRAP value.…”

“…The FRAP method is used to measure the ability of an antioxidant to reduce or donate electrons to a potassium ferricyanide complex. In this method, antioxidants will act as reducing agents that will reduce Fe 3+ ions from the potassium ferricyanide complex [K 3 Fe(CN) 6 ] to Fe 2+ [ 29 ].…”

“…tuberosa L. extract, and microcapsules. The measurement of antioxidant activity was carried out according to the method reported by [ 29 ]. The assay was initiated by adding 0.5 mL of 0.2 M phosphate buffer pH 6.6 to the samples with various concentrations, 1 to 5 µ g/mL for ascorbic acid, 10–50 µ g/mL for extracts, and 100–500 µ g/mL for microcapsules.…”

“…The FRAP radical method 10,11 was modified slightly to estimate the antioxidant effect of the samples. The sample concentration was prepared at 1000 ug/mL in methanol, then diluted to 500 ug/mL.…”
