Virtue-based approaches have attracted significant recent interest in argumentation, including a recent anthology of Chinese translations of important articles in the field. In this article, adapted from the introduction to that anthology, we discuss the origins of virtue argumentation and some of the challenges it has faced, as well as attempt to provide an overview of recent work on the virtues and vices relevant to argumentation. In the final section we discuss the articles that were selected and motivate their selection.

RESUMO Nosso objetivo, neste artigo, é discutir um modelo multidimensional de análise que considere a ancoragem discursiva, cognitiva e multimodal da atividade argumentativa. Em primeiro lugar, apresentamos sucintamente as principais premissas teóricas de tal abordagem, partindo de uma perspectiva multidisciplinar. Em segundo lugar, por meio de um diálogo com diferentes tradições dos estudos argumentativos, introduzimos as cinco dimensões que consideramos relevantes para uma análise holística das práticas argumentativas – a configuração funcional, a macroestrutura, a esquematização, a ancoragem socioafetiva e a orientação argumentativa. Por fim, ilustramos o funcionamento do modelo por meio de uma análise multidimensional de um movimento argumentativo extraído de uma entrevista televisiva com um político brasileiro em contexto de campanha eleitoral.

O objetivo deste artigo é discutir uma releitura do layout de argumentos proposto por Fairclough & Fairclough (2012) para a análise de textos de visada argumentativa prática. Primeiramente, discutiremos a noção de dissenso, situando o layout como um dispositivo de configuração funcional que estrutura uma resposta a um problema prático, que pode ser orientado a alternativas de ação ou às motivações para a ação. Posteriormente, reconceptualizamos a noção de Circunstâncias por meio de um diálogo com o esquema imagético de força (Talmy, 2000), gerando, assim, uma nova tipologia que amplia o potencial descritivo do dispositivo. Ademais, propomos um conjunto de seis critérios relevantes para a descrição e avaliação de argumentos práticos: trata-se dos critérios de eficácia, viabilidade, eficiência, inofensividade, beneficiamento e respeito aos Valores. Por fim, analisamos um tweet sequencial da edutuber Nilce Moretto, mostrando a validade da discussão teórica e da releitura de categorias e critérios discutidos no artigo.
