Texture Particles

Abstract: International audienceThis paper presents an analytical extension of texture synthesis techniques based on the distribution of elementary texture components. Our approach is similar to the bombing, cellular, macrostructured and lapped textures techniques, but provides the user with more control on both the texture analysis and synthesis phases. Therefore, high quality results can be obtained for a large number of structured or stochastic textures (bricks, marble, lawn, etc.). The analysis consists in decomposi… Show more

“…In [1] feature distributions can be controlled using a user-drawn feature probability map. In [4,29] feature sizes, orientations and so forth can be modified. In [19,30], the difficult problem of smooth transitions between different types of textures is addressed.…”

“…In [19,30], the difficult problem of smooth transitions between different types of textures is addressed. As for texture particles [4], [30] considers elementary texture components (textons) by using texton masks. We therefore call such techniques texton-based.…”

“…Hybrid methods [20] lay out patches and use pixel-based algorithm to hide the seams. Surface texture synthesis extends these 2D texture synthesis methods to synthesize texture directly on the surface, including pixel-based methods [31,29,33,27] and pattern mapping methods [21,23,25,5]. With these methods, the discontinuities and cracks almost disappear, while the distortion problem is greatly reduced.…”
