Telemetric Monitoring Insulation Condition of High Voltage Overhead Power Lines

Abstract: The conditions of operation and the causes of failures in the operation of high-voltage overhead transmission lines are considered. The review of existing methods of monitoring the state of external insulation has been carried out and a method for monitoring the insulation state of high-voltage insulators under operating voltage has been proposed by measuring the leakage current. The review of methods of information transmission over GSM networks is carried out, the analysis of various methods of increasing no… Show more

“…On the basis of this method, there was issued the RK patent [27]. To implement the proposed method, a comprehensive system of protection and diagnostics of overhead line elements has been proposed and developed, which collects and transmits the information of the current state of insulation over GSM networks in real time from leakage current sensors of strings of overhead line insulators placed on supports [28,29].…”

“…These transmission line networks are very much prone to failure due to the faults they endure during their service period. The significant percentage of these faults cannot be managed through any operational diagnosis as the faults are related with the uncertain atmospheric factors and the characteristics of the transmission line routes [2]. Considering the causes of power outages, the most outages are caused by transmission wires that sustain overvoltage transients either via thunderstorm over voltages or non-thunderstorm over voltages.…”

“…Upon reaching a certain limiting increase in the pitch of the traction unit, further operation of the chain transmission cannot be possible due to a significant decrease in the safety factor of the chains, violation of the ease of movement or disturbance of engagement of the chain joints with sprockets and cams of the intermediate drives, which leads to frequent failures in the course of operation of the conveyor traction body [8]. The progress achieved in the development of power semiconductor technology, the creation of high-quality and powerful frequency converters using PWM modulation, the introduction of high-speed and high-discharge industrial controllers made it possible to use frequency-controlled AC drives for plate conveyors based on commercially available asynchronous motors for the mining industry [9][10][11][12][13][14][15].…”
