Technical Eficiency of Fish Aggregating Devices Associated With Tuna Fishery in Kendari Fishing Port – Indonesia

Abstract: Kendari fishing port is one of the biggest tuna fisheries landing in Indonesia. It yearly average tuna production was more than 20 thousand tons. The tuna fishing fleet in Kendari use FAD (Fish Aggregating Devices) as an auxiliary fishing gear. FAD management is major issues in Indonesian tuna fisheries. extensive investment on FAD has led to increase of the juvenile and by catch and also social problem because of the competition. Technical efficiency analysis was done during this study, 2015 catch and logisti… Show more

“…As pointed out by New (), because changes in fishery management can influence vessel efficiency, recent studies have also focused on assessing the role of specific fishery management programmes and practices on technical efficiency (New, ). Natsir, Widodo, Wudianto, and Agnarsson (), for example, assessed the impacts of fishing aggregating devices (FAD) as an auxiliary fishing gear for tuna fish in the Kendari, Indonesia. The study employed a stochastic frontier approach, revealing all the variable inputs included in the model exhibited a positive relationship to the catch, although the days at sea variable exhibited a negative relationship, indicating an increasing FAD number made fishers spend more time fishing, thereby eventually decreasing the technical efficiency.…”

“…Based on these statements can show that auditor professionalism is an attitude to provide an objective opinion, not biased, not limited, and report the problem as it is (Natsir et al, 2018), and according to (Suzana, 2017) professional behavior in the form of responsibility, integrity, objective, independence and equality. Indicators of professionalism according to (Oliveira and Panyik, 2015) are devotion to the profession, social obligations, independence, confidence in professional regulations, and relationships with fellow professionals.…”

“…The significantly lower a-FAD visit success rate of HL/TR boats based at Muara Padang may be due to more a-FADs in the Padang with a higher a-FAD density, competition with PS boats operating on similar fishing grounds, or both. Natsir et al (2017) said lower value of technical efficiency of fishing gear associated with FADs could be resulted by the increasing number of FADs that can result in a higher a-FAD density in certain areas or waters.…”
