In a developing country such as Pakistan, adopting biogas technology is a complicated process. The government has taken several steps to address energy issues by increasing biogas facilities. This research seeks to identify the major barriers to the deployment of biogas plants. Respondents were selected using the snowball sampling method. As a result, 79 adopters of biogas plants participated. Utilizing a structured questionnaire, primary data were collected. Hypotheses were evaluated using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Study results demonstrate that all influencing factors are favorably associated with implementing biogas technology, minimizing energy crises, and achieving cost-cutting objectives. In addition, the findings show that properly reducing economic and governmental barriers, encourage farmers to use biogas plants productively and substantially. To build biogas facilities, the government should adopt an economic strategy, owner training, day-to-day operations, and professional technical assistance.

The extensive need for energy has become a global issue due to the enormous population growth and demand for electricity-based products. Energy crises are rapidly increasing, which have destructive impacts on the industry in Pakistan. Biogas technology adoption is a challenge in a developing country like Pakistan. The government sector has taken initial steps to eliminate the energy crisis and promoted biogas plants. The primary objective of this study is to explore the satisfied and unsatisfied ratio of farmers who have adopted biogas plants in the country. The sample size was identified through the snowball sampling method. A total of 51 biogas adopters participated in this study. The structured questionnaires were used to collect data through online interviews. The results indicate that 34% of biogas plant respondents were satisfied with their plant feedback. The partially satisfied respondents were 24%, whereas 42% showed unsatisfaction. More than half (58%) of the respondents expressed that biogas plants are in good working conditions; however, 42% of biogas users were unrestrained for several causes. The findings of this study indicate that major maintenance and day-to-day operations of biogas plants are expensive due to lack of skilled operators, untrained or partially trained owners, and unavailability of technicians. The results suggest that the government needs to plan a clear policy, technical support with skilled technicians to biogas plant owners, all through an integrated and coherent way.

In the past few years, pertaining to energy shortage, Government of Pakistan promoted the biogas plants in specific rural areas. This study is an attempt to explore the success and failure adopted biogas plants by the farmers in rural areas of Faisalabad, Pakistan. In this study, the researcher selected tehsil Faisalabad of district Faisalabad based on the availability of biogas plants installed by the Government, NGO/INGOs and private contractors in the past few years. Snowball sampling method was used to identify the sample size. Total 51 biogas adopters participated in the study as respondents. Primary data were collected through face to face interviews on a structured questionnaire. Results shows that 33.3% of respondents were fully satisfied with their biogas plants. Close to one fourth (23.5%) of respondents were partially satisfied while 43.1% of respondents were not satisfied with their biogas plants. More than half (56.9%) of biogas plants were in working condition and 43.1% of biogas users abandoned for many reasons. The major reasons for the inspiration behind construction and installation of biogas plants were subsidy, cases of existing biogas plant owners, social advantages/reputation, motivation from construction/installation agency and conservation of time and energy. Whereas, for the reasons such as frequently come across technical problems, unavailability of technicians, difficulty in operation of biogas plant, insufficient gas for food preparation /lighting, escape of gas through joints/connections and extra workload were the reasons compelling farmers to abandoning the biogas plants. It was found that operation and maintenance of biogas plants is one of the major issues due to untrained, partially trained owners, unavailability of technicians and skilled operators.
