Bengkulu City is located along the west coast of Sumatra Island where most of its population work as fishermen by utilizing existing resources in the coastal and marine areas. Fishermen beside produce fishery products, they also need other food which are not produce by themselves to fulfill their daily need. This study aims to determine the condition of household food access ability and to analyze their fishing performance in Bengkulu City. The research was carried out in three sub-districts which are fisheries centers, namely Malabero, Pondok Besi and Pasar Bengkulu. Primary data are collected from 114 respondents while secondary data come from formal institutions such as Statistics Indonesia and fisheries department in Bengkulu. Data analysis using proportional income expenditure to show family food access ability, meanwhile, fishing benefit, RC ratio and return of investment value are used to show fishing performance. The results of this study show that on average fishermen family in Bengkulu City have not food access ability because of their proportional expenditure is less than 60% (59.06%). But, total fishermen family who are in good food access ability are 57.02 % or more than total fishermen family who have food access ability (42.98%). Besides that, on average, fishing performance in Bengkulu City are quite good. That is show by their income that is around IDR 3,695,664 per trip, its RC ratio as high 6.2 (more than 1) and its return of investment value is 7.36%.

The outrigger is one of the components of the boat attached to the outside of the boat. Outrigger has a fairly vital function because it can make the boat stable when fishermen do activities at sea. This study aims to determine the potential of electrical energy that can be generated in the outrigger. In this study, the outrigger shape was modified so that the water flow could be directed into the outrigger cylinder and rotate the turbine to produce electrical energy. This modification was carried out without eliminating the main function of the outrigger supporting the stability of fishing boats. The electrical energy produced is stored in the battery to be used as a source of electricity for lighting at night. The results of this study indicate that the electrical energy produced by outriggers can be used as a source of lighting for traditional fishing boats. However, further research is still needed to determine the loss of ship resistance with this modification.

Abstract. Sahami FM, Habibie SA. 2021. Diversity of species in making up Nike fish schools and a new record of Eleotris melanosoma in Tomini Paguyaman Bay, Gorontalo, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 22: 5459-5467. Several estuaries in the waters of Tomini Bay are reported as the primary location for Nike fishing in Gorontalo; one of which is Paguyaman Bay. However, scientific information on Nike fish in the Tomini Bay waters is currently limited in Gorontalo Bay. The present study aims to determine the diversity of species in making up the Nike fish schools in Paguyaman Bay and show the types of constituent species whose distribution in Gorontalo waters has never been reported. A total of 1773 samples of Nike fish were collected from the sea to the estuary of Paguyaman Bay in one period of their emergence on April 8-10, 2021. The species were grouped based on the melanophore pattern’s similarity and then analyzed morphometrically. The molecular identification of COI mitochondrial DNA was performed on species with different morphological appearances from those found in Gorontalo Bay. The Discriminant Function Analysis (DFA) indicated that the main distinguishing character of morphometrics is body depth. The morphological results suggested that the Nike fish schools in Paguyaman Bay consisted of seven species, four genera, and two families, i.e., Sicyopterus longifilis, S. parvei, S. cynocephalus, Stiphodon semoni, Belobranchus segura, B. belobranchus, and Eleotris melanosoma. The first finding of E. melanosoma as a species making up the Nike fish schools in Paguyaman Bay was a new variant of the distribution of this species in Gorontalo waters and confirmed using morphology and molecular analysis. Further, based on the species composition, Nike fish schools in the waters of Paguyaman Bay show a typical species dominance trend during the recruitment process returning to freshwater, i.e., S. longifilis (52%) on the first day, Belobranchus segura (63.27%) on the second day, and Stiphodon semoni (83.43%) on the third day.
