“…The standard crystallographic data for the refinement of b-Ca 3 (PO 4 ) 2 and DyPO 4 were, respectively, obtained from Yashima et al and Milligan et al 5,28 The authors implemented the refinement strategies in accordance with their previous report. 29 A Raman Spectrometer (Renishaw, Wotton-under-Edge, UK) with backscattering configuration at an excitation wavelength of 785 nm was utilized to obtain Raman spectra of all the powder samples in the scanning range 100 to 1200 cm À1 with data acquisition time of 30 s. Infrared spectra in transmission mode were obtained using FTIR spectrophotometer (Perkin-Elmer, Waltham, MA, USA), for which pellets were prepared by mixing the powder sample with potassium bromide (KBr) in the ratio of 1:100. The optical absorption spectra of pure and Dy 3+doped powder samples heat treated at 900°C were obtained using UV-VIS-NIR spectrophotometer (Varian Model: 5000, Santa Clara, CA, USA) equipped with deuterium and tungsten halogen light sources.…”

“…Quantitative phase analysis of the powders was performed by employing the Rietveld method using GSAS‐EXPGUI software package . The procedure for refinement was done in accordance with the previous report by the authors . For the analysis through Rietveld refinement, an average of three X‐ray scans was recorded for each powder samples.…”

“…Recent studies emphasized the ability of Eu 3+ and Gd 3+ to mimic Ca 2+ in bone remodeling cycle for the treatment of bone density disorders and osteoporosis . We have also reported lanthanum (La 3+ ) substitutions in β ‐TCP crystal structure . In view of the fact, we aim to develop Gd 3 + substituted β ‐Ca 3 (PO 4 ) 2 which could possibly be used as MRI contrast agents with specific advantage of bone‐tissue contrast imaging.…”

“…Therefore, a number of synthetic materials have emerged since the 1980s. Bioactive ceramics namely hydroxyapatite [HAP, Ca 10 (PO 4 ) 6 OH) 2 ] and b-tricalcium phosphate [b-TCP, b-Ca 3 (PO 4 ) 2 ] are frequently applied bioactive ceramics in remodeling surgical procedures (Meenambal et al 2014). The b-TCP material possesses an accelerated degradation mode, and merely small residuals of the ceramic can be found after a time period of 86 weeks after augmentation.…”
