New metal complexes including Ni (Ⅱ), Co (Ⅱ), Cu (Ⅱ), Fe (Ⅲ), Cr (Ⅲ), Cd (Ⅱ) and Zn ( Ⅱ ) have been synthesized from parent ligand N-methyl mnitrobenzohydroxamic acid. The condensation ratio is 2:1 of the ligand and metal salt (MX) in methanol. The ligand N-methyl m-nitrobenzohydroxamic has been prepared by the interaction of N-methylhydroxylamine hydrochloride with m-nitrobenzoyl chloride. The coordination modes and bonding of the ligands along with its metal complexes have been identified by FT-IR, 1H-NMR and UV-Vis spectroscopic techniques. It has been enumerated by spectroscopic techniques that the complex is formed via O, O-coordination to metal through the oxygen of carbonyl group and deprotonated hydroxyl group. The antibacterial and antifungal activities of the ligand as well as its complexes have been estimated against two gram negative strains such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi, one gram positive strain Escherichia coli and one fungal strain yeast. In addition to this the cytotoxicity and antitumor activities have been evaluated resistant to Brine shrimps eggs and Hela cell line respectively.

Mechanochemical Synthesis of Fluorinated Imines

A number of imines, including 12 new compounds, previously not reported in the literature, derived from variously fluorinated benzaldehydes and different anilines or chiral benzylamines were synthesized by a solvent-free mechanochemical method, which was based on the manual grinding of equimolar amounts of the substrates at the room temperature. In a very short reaction time of only 15 min, the method produced the expected products with good-to-excellent yields. The yields were comparable or significantly higher than those reported in the literature for the imines synthesized by other methods. Importantly, the conditions used for the reactions with aniline derivatives also resulted in the high yields of imines obtained from chiral benzylamines, and can be extended to the synthesis with other similar amines. Structures of all imines were confirmed by NMR spectroscopy: 1H, 13C and 19F. For four compounds, X-ray structures were also obtained. The synthetic approach presented in this paper contributes to the prevention of environmental pollution and can be easily extended for larger-scale syntheses. The mechanochemical solvent-free method provides a convenient strategy particularly useful for the preparation of fluorinated imines being versatile intermediates or starting material in the synthesis of drugs and other fine chemicals.

New unsymmetrical Schiff bases (L3a-L3c) were synthesized by using a two-stage method. The starting Schiff bases were prepared by the reaction of 2-aminophenol (or 2amino-4-methylphenol or 2-amino-4-chlorophenol) with 1-nitro-2-naphthaldehyde. In these compounds, the nitro groups were reduced to amino groups using selective reducing agent and then 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde were added. Thus, three new unsymmetric Schiff base ligands were obtained. The antimicrobial activity of the synthesized unsymmetric Schiff bases were evaluated against some pathogenic strains (Shigella dysenteria type 7, Listeria monocytogenes 4b, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi H, Staphylococcus epidermis, Brucella abortus, Micrococcus luteus, Bacillus cereus sp., Pseudomonas putida sp.) and yeast (Candida albicans).
