Synthesis of a New Granulated Polyampholyte and its Sorption Properties

Abstract: In this paper, characteristics of the interaction of an anion-exchange resin PPE-1 formed using phosphonic acid and granular polyvinyl chloride were investigated. In addition, a reaction order of 1.43 and an activation energy of 47.8 kJ/mol for phosphorylation were determined. The as-obtained polyampholyte was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energydispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis, and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Optimum conditions for obtaining a new polyampholyte that s… Show more

“…When studying the sorption of Cu (II), Ni (II) and In (III) ions into the obtained polyampholyte, the sequence of selectivity Cu (II) > Ni (II) > In (III) to metal ions is polyampholyte 32 . The maximum sorption of polyampholyte to Сu (II), Ni (II) and In (III) ions is 3,35, 2,74, and 2,36 mmol/g, respectively.…”

“…It was also shown that this anion exchanger is used with high efficiency in desalting river water. In other scientific studies, the authors modified the PPE‐1 anion exchange resin with phosphonic acid (Scheme 8) and obtained a nitrogen‐phosphorus‐containing polyampholyte 32 . The elemental qualitative and quantitative composition of the obtained polyampholite contains 21.5% N atoms and 3.6% P atoms.…”

“…Nowadays, synthetic polymeric ion-exchangers 1,2 are widely used to address environmental problems related to ionic contaminations. [2][3][4] Among those, anion-exchange materials have found widespread use in wastewater treatment to remove highly toxic (heavy) metal ions. 5 Among the potential target ions, chromium play an important role: it is widely used in industrial processes, such as metal finishing, textile dyeing, coating, pigments, batteries, leather tanning, and so forth.…”
