Synthesis, Crystal Structure and Properties of [Mn(hdpa)2(N(CN)2)2] and [Co(hdpa)2(N(CN)2)2] (hdpa = 2, 2'‐Dipyridylamine)

Abstract: Two new transition metal(II) complexes [M(hdpa) 2 -(N(CN) 2 ) 2 ] (M ϭ Mn (1), Co (2); hdpa ϭ 2,2'-dipyridylamine) have been prepared and characterized structurally and magnetically. Both compounds crystallize in the monoclinic space group C2/c. 1 and 2 are isotypic with the unit cell parameters a ϭ 8.634(9), b ϭ 13.541 (14), c ϭ 21.99(2) Å , β ϭ 94.806(18)°, and V ϭ 2562(5) Å 3 for 1, a ϭ 8.617(3) Å , b ϭ 13.629(5)Å , c ϭ 21.598(8)Å , β ϭ 94.593(6)°, and V ϭ 2528.4(15)Å 3 for 2, and Z ϭ 4 for both. “…Organic ligands containing nitrogen heteroatoms play an important role in the assembly process of transition-metal complexes (Manson et al, 2001;Pan et al, 2000;Du et al, 2001;Jones, 1998;Fujita, 1998;Li et al, 2002;Feng et al, 2006;Ross et al, 2001;Weyhermü ller et al, 2005). Both dicyanamide and di-2-pyridylamine (dpaH) ligands can form transition-metal complexes (Xu et al, 2003). In order to study the coordination behaviour of the two ligands, we synthesized the title complex, (I).…”

“…In order to study the coordination behaviour of the two ligands, we synthesized the title complex, (I). (Xu et al, 2003). The Ni II centre (site symmetry 2) is six-coordinated by four pyridine N atoms of two dpaH ligands and two terminal N atoms of two dicyanamide ligands, as shown in Fig.…”

“…Due to their large number of nitrogens, these kinds of ligands are able to form very interesting and stable complexes. Many of them are found to be both structural and functional models of various metallo-enzymes, such as hemerythrin [10], phosphate esterases [11][12][13], copper-monooxygenases [14], superoxide dismutase [15,16], manganese-catalase [17]. We are interested in TACNbased compounds that are capable of efficiently catalyzing the dismutation of superoxide anion and the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide.…”

“…As expected, the apical Cu1-O3 ii distance is longer than the basal Cu-O1 and the two Cu-N2 and Cu-N1 i bond lengths (see Table 2). The Cu-O and Cu-N bond lengths are comparable with those of complexes having similar coordination geometry (Bian et al, 2003;Xu et al, 2003). The basal geometry is almost square, with the bond angles around the Cu II centre very close to orthogonal [ranging between 88.84 (6) and 91.26 6].…”
