Synthesis, characterization, XRD, SEM, DNA binding, and effect of γ‐irradiation of some new Ni (II) and Co (II) complexes with thiosemicarbazone ligand: In vitro antimicrobial and antioxidant activities

Abstract: Ni (II) and Co (II) complexes of thiosemicarbazide ligand (2-(anilinoacetyl)-N-(3-methylphenyl)hydrazine-1-carbothioamide(H 2 L B ) have been prepared and characterized by 1 HNMR, IR, elemental analyses, molar conductance, UVvisible spectra, magnetic susceptibility measurements, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA/DTG), and X-ray differaction pattern before and after irradiation. The results confirmed that gamma rays enhanced the stability of irradiated compounds compared with those non-irradiated. Density function… Show more

“…49 The numerous shifts in the position or change in the shape of the bands of the complexes compared to the absorption bands of free (3-APT) ligands due to the formation of the metal complexes. Also, the C=N stretching frequency on complexation with metal ion undergoes a negative shift demonstrating the coordination of imine nitrogen 50,51 as observed in Table 2.…”

“…The lower polarity increases the activity of the compound and facilitates the entrance of the compound into the lipid layer of the bacterial surface and causes the effectiveness to decrease. [43,44] Also, it may be the difficulty of the labialization of chloride ions. We extended our work by investigating the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) for the ligand.…”

“…The current compounds' antioxidant activity has been evaluated using the technique of scavenging DPPH-free radicals. 45 Table 3 contained information on the suppression ratio for DPPH and illustrated how all the compounds tested, both before and after irradiation, showed excellent radical scavenging capabilities at various concentrations (from 2.5 to 1,280 μg/ml). Antioxidant activity is greater when the IC 50 value is lower.…”
