Synthesis, characterization, and evaluation of poly[n‐alkyl(oxy)‐n‐hexyl acrylates]

Abstract: SYNOPSISOxoalkyl acrylates of long-chain 7-0x0 alcohols were synthesized as intermediate monomers for the preparation of poly [ n-alkyl( oxy) -n-hexyl acrylates] for the first time. These polymers have wide applications as fluidity improvers (pour point depressants) for petroleum crude oils. Characterization of all the intermediate monomers was done by IR, 'H-NMR, and MS, and that of polymers by IR, 'H-NMR, and GPC. These polymers were systematically investigated for their efficacy as pour point depressants on… Show more

“…Several methods have been devised to either remove or inhibit these deposits; these include injection of water vapor or solvents, additives to decrease the pour point and improve fluidity, microwaves and ultrasound irradiation, and magnetic fields , Although they have limitations regarding maximum operating temperature and creep life, they solve problems such as corrosion, welding, and equipment maintenance cost.…”

“…4 The increase of intermolecular orientation of paraffins leads to their nucleation and, consequently, to the beginning of crystal formation. 5,6 Several methods have been devised to either remove or inhibit these deposits; these include injection of water vapor or solvents, additives to decrease the pour point and improve fluidity, [7][8][9][10] microwaves and ultrasound irradiation, 11 and magnetic fields. 6 Recently, plastics, amorphous polymers, and fiber-reinforced plastics have been used as linings and coatings or as massive materials in order to reduce the wettability and decrease the paraffin deposition.…”

“…En 1980, Lu Chengxun y sus colaboradores sintetizaron homopolímeros bioactivos empleando diferentes monómeros acrílicos mediante un mecanismo radicalario, utilizando dimetilformamida como solvente de reacción (8) . Mediante la misma técnica de polimerización, Pratap y sus colaboradores analizaron el efecto de la cadena hidrocarbonada de esteres acrílicos sobre la mejora de las propiedades finales de los polímeros sintetizados (11) .…”
