Synthesis and properties of new thermosensitive polymer systems

Abstract: The controlled thermal release of aqueous solvent mixtures from polymeric gel particles was investigated. A new type of a polymeric gel consisting of a maleic anhydride/poly(ethylene glycol) condensation product as a crosslinking macromonomer and acrylamides was synthesized by solution or inverse emulsion polymerization for the investigation. Afterward a shell of crosslinked polystyrene was coated to stabilize this new kind of "microcontainer" for the application. This concept was shown as generally useful for… Show more

“…However, the catalyst ensures a rapid elimination of the OH‐group from the COOH group and the following formation of H 2 O by H addition to the OH‐group from the added PEG. There are several papers that confirm the possibility of obtaining a PEG–M–PEG complex in this way 19–21…”

“…A series of peaks between 13 and 16 min indicates different compounds of S–PEG150–SS (horizontal hachure) with different molar masses. Multiple condensation leads to polyelectrolytes that have inherent mechanical properties 19. The area under the curve (vertical and horizontal hachures) was calculated and normalized to one to permit a comparison of S–PEG150–SS molecule and condensation compounds.…”

“…In the past, Bohrisch et al stabilized hydrogels with a crosslinked polystyrene casing. 8 We adopted this idea by embedding ssDNA into a hydrogel sphere and coated it with a shell of crosslinked polystyrene. By use of these polystyrene-hydrogel microcapsules we aimed to enhance ssDNA stability against acidic environments for the use as a marking system.…”

“…Thermo‐responsive polymers have drawn increasing attention in academic and industrial research. Investigation has been focused mostly in the biological and medical fields, such as drug delivery 1–7, tissue engineering 8, biotechnological devices 9, 10, immobilization of enzymes 11 and DNA separation or sequencing 12–19. These thermally sensitive polymers exhibit a “switchable viscosity” that is driven by volume‐phase transition responding to small variations in temperature.…”
