Synthesis and characterization of the surface modified titanium dioxide/epoxy nanocomposites

Abstract: TiO 2 nanoparticles, obtained by acid catalyzed hydrolysis of titanium isopropoxide, were surface modified by three gallic acid esters with different hydrophobic part length: octyl, decyl and lauryl gallate, and then used to prepare TiO 2 /epoxy nanocomposites. The characterization of the surface modified TiO 2 nanoparticles was performed by FTIR and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The influence of different gallic acid esters and content of modified TiO 2 nanoparticles on the glass transition temperature (Tg), rheologic… Show more

“…% of TiO 2 nanoparticles within the epoxy polymeric matrix had the most pronounced effect on the T g value which increased from 127.9 • C for neat epoxy coating system to ∼144 • C ET1. Similar observations were reported by Radoman et al (2015), who claimed that the epoxy resin is able to exhibit higher T g values when it reinforced with TiO 2 nanoparticles due to the role of these particles in reducing the segments mobility at the nanoparticles-epoxy interfaces by the presence of physical attractive interactions.…”

“…13 Li and Niu (2015) successfully synthesized silver-gallic acid nanoparticles that have high antimicrobial and low cytotoxicity activities towards normal cells. 14 Radoman et al (2015) reported the synthesis and characterization of TiO 2 nanoparticles modified with octyl gallate 15 , whilst the latest research by Cordova et al in 2017 showed that solid lipid-octyl gallate nanoparticles can improve the antimetastatic activity in mice model of lung cancer. 16 Synthesis and characterization of gallic acid nanoparticles with ionic gelation methods, as well as study to determine the its invitro anticancer activity has never been reported.…”
