Synthesis and Characterization of New Ferrite-Lignin Hybrids

Abstract: The paper presents the synthesis and characterization of new cobalt ferrite-lignin hybrids. The hybrids were obtained through the combustion of cobalt nitrate and ferric nitrate, two kinds of lignin being used as combustion agents. The temperatures of calcination were 500 °C and 900 °C, respectively. The hybrids were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX), and X-ray photoelectron spectro… Show more

“…The XPS analysis provided evidence about the composition of the trimetallic CuZnCo nanoparticles by revealing the presence of copper, zinc, and cobalt ( Figure 3 ). The high-resolution spectrum of Co 2p ( Figure 3 A) was analyzed and resolved into three signals: metallic Co at 777.9 eV, Co 2+ at 782.3 eV, and a Co 2+ shake-up satellite at 786.3 eV [ 52 ]. The Cu 2p signal is shown in Figure 3 B, displaying two distinct peaks at 933.1 eV and 934.9 eV.…”

“…The 2θ values of 20, 30, 35, 37, 43, 55, 56, and 62, corresponding to the reflection plans (111), (220), (311), (222), (400), (422), (551), and (440), confirm the spinel structure of CF. [ 45 ] Also, the amorphous structure of xanthan was evidenced. [ 46 ] XGCF and XGACCF spectra present a diffraction peak at 2θ = 35°, which confirms the presence of the CF in the organic matrix.…”

“…Lignin is a well-branched phenol polymer and accounts for about 15–20% of the total weight of LCBM [ 43 ]. Based on its molecular structure, lignin is made up of three main components that are connected by a variety of bonds [ 29 ]. As per the nature of LCBM, the structure of lignin is also variable, and the process of degradation powerfully dependent on its constitution.…”

“…Further, the authors investigated the synthesized material by using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and vibrating sample magnetometer system (VSM) for magnetic properties. This particular hybrid had a spinel structure whose crystal size increased with greater calcination temperature [ 29 ]. Kumar et al, 2021 has used LiG particles for gene/drug delivery and for tissue-engineering applications [ 30 ].…”
