Synthesis and Characterization of Mineral Wollastonite Particulate Filled Vinyl-Ester Resin Composites

Abstract: In the present research presents influence of coupling agent 1 % triethoxymethyl silane sprayed on to the wollastonite particulate powder before it dispersed into the vinylester/composites. Firstly two different composites were developed in which wollastonite is filled with vinylester resin and same wollastonite was sprayed with coupling agent 1 % triethoxymethyl silane then filled with vinylester resin. The particle functionalization with a bi-functional coupling agent 1 % triethoxymethyl silane was observed … Show more

“…The DTA diagram shows a sharp exothermic peak at about 350 o C, which corresponds to the oxidation of Fe 3 O 4 and the transition to Fe 2 O 3 . The oxidation process, the incorporation of oxygen, from the compound is followed by mass increase for~1.5 %, which is noticeable in the range of 300-400 o C [30].Weak endothermic peaks are visible on the DTA curve: two at about 800 and 900 o C, which are not followed by a change in the mass, that may correspond to the transformation of the quartz into tridymite and/or cristobalite phase [23]. The mass mass drop of about 2 % at higher temperature can be attributed to the incorporation of Fe into CaSiO 2 , and the formation of a solid solution as well as structural rearrangement of the wollastonite into pseudo wollastonite [23].…”

“…The introduction of wollastonite in polymeric materials is primarily aimed at improving the mechanical properties of PCM such as elastic modulus, yield strength, and elongation at break, which have a strong effect on the resistance to mechanical deformation [39]. A high ratio of wollastonite grain length to diameter provides better load stress transfer from the polymer matrix to the filler when exposed to an external load, which leads to an increase in the mechanical properties of PCMs [38,[40][41][42]. PCMs containing wollastonite are used in many industries, covering a wide range of products: from thermoset and thermoplastic materials and products to automotive and aerospace products.…”
