Synthesis and Characterization of Chitosan-Silver Nanocomposite Film

Abstract: Chitosan is termed as one of the useful carbohydrate oligosaccharides derived from chitin, which can be used to improve film packaging by hybridizing with silver due to their advantages of flexibility, easy scale up and low cost methods. Design of packaging material with non-toxic property becomes key issue. The objective of this work is to synthesize and characterize chitosan-silver nanocomposite film for effective packaging. The nanocomposite was synthesized using in-situ, co-mixing chemical method and air d… Show more

“…Three strong Bragg reflections were observed at 38.45 °, 46.35 °, 64.75 ° corresponding to the planes of (1 1 1), (2 0 0) and (2 2 0) respectively, indexed according to the face centered cubic crystal structure of silver. These values are in agreement with the values reported in literature (Rhim et al, 2006;Govindan et al, 2012;Olaniyan et al, 2016). The results were corroborated against the Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) (figure 3 The HR-TEM images of the synthesized AgNPs (figure 4) indicates that the particles are predominantly spherical in shape with an average particle size of 24.6178 nm as determined from the TEM micrograph.…”

“…After 30 months of exposure, both the chitosan and chitosan/BTA coatings showed absorption in the region of 400-440 nm. As frequently reported in the literature [37][38][39], nano-sized silver particles have absorption peaks in the visible region from 400 nm to 440 nm, depending on the size and morphology of the parti-cles. These confer from yellow to light red hues to solutions or films containing them [40].…”

“…6). The nanohybrid formed is more friendly, economical and highly resourceful, compare to other methods [10,23,27,28,31,32,34]. Hybridization improved the silica-silver interaction with better sensing ability or optical enhancement, increase intensity, conductivity with chemically modified structure (fig, 3 and 4), hence, the hybridized silica-silver (AgNPs) is a good industrial material (Fig.…”
