“…We included nine populations of Aedes aegypti collected between 2010 and 2011 in the Colombian Caribbean region and whose levels of resistance to permethrin, deltamethrin, λ‐cyhalothrin and cyfluthrin were previously reported and are also included in Table . The locations of the sampling sites were Barranquilla (10° 57′ 50″ N, 74° 47′ 47″ W), Puerto Colombia (10° 59′ 16″ N, 74° 57′ 17″ W) and Soledad (10° 55′ 06″ N, 74° 45′ 53″ W) in the state of Atlantico; Valledupar (10° 27′ 47″ N, 73° 15′ 12″ W) in the state of Cesar; San Juan del Cesar (10° 46′ 16″ N, 73° 00′ 11″ W) in the state of La Guajira; Sincelejo (09° 18′ 17″ N, 75° 23′ 52″ W) in the state of Sucre; Monteria (08° 47′ 05″ N, 75° 52′ 53″ W) in the state of Cordoba; Cienaga (11° 00′ 25″ N, 74° 14′ 52″ W) in the state of Magdalena; and Cartagena (10° 23′ 59″ N, 75° 30′ 52″ W) in the state of Bolivar (Fig.…”

“…Aedes aegypti is the main vector of dengue, chikungunya and Zika viruses, of public health importance in Colombia. For the control of A. aegypti and in the absence of an effective vaccine for the prevention of diseases it causes, insecticides including organochlorines, organophosphates, carbamates and pyrethroids have been used; however, the continuous use of these chemicals has generated resistance in populations of this species in Colombia, mainly to DDT and pyrethroids . Knockdown resistance to these insecticides is associated with the presence of non‐synonymous mutations that reduce pyrethroids binding to voltage‐dependent sodium channels .…”

“…Subsequent studies reported the presence of kdr conferring mutations in Ae. aegypti collections from Brazil (Martins et al, 2009a(Martins et al, , 2009bLima et al, 2011;Belinato, Martin and Valle, 2012), Mexico (Ponce-Garcia et al, 2009;Siller et al, 2011;Aponte et al, 2013) and the Caribbean (Marcombe et al, 2009(Marcombe et al, , 2012(Marcombe et al, , 2013Harris, Rajatileka and Ranson, 2010;Bariami et al, 2012;McAllister, Godsey and Scott, 2012;Maestre-Serrano et al, 2014;Alvarez et al, 2015).…”
